Anyone know of a software program that will allow you to record credit card transactions as though they were money already spent (sort of as though they were debit card transactions?). I've used Quicken and Microsoft Money, but they keep credit card purchases in a separate file. I like everything in one place, so that if I spent $50 on my credit card, I can consider that money gone as soon as I spend it, not when the credit card bill comes. Does such a program exist?

Thanks for any tips!

Lena,

You could accomplish what you want with Quicken and here's how. You could record a transfer from your main account (say checking, for instance) to your credit card account the minute the money was spent. That way, your credit card would always theoretically have a zero balance and your checking account would be reduced in tandem.

This wouldn't work well if you automatically synch Quicken with your bank, as I do with Citibank, but it could work. All you'd have to do in addition to the steps above would be to ensure your CC bill was paid on time.

Alternatively, if you are good at designing macros for spreadsheets or know someone who is, you could probably accomplish the same thing that way.
