"He is such a liar, because the only time he was down there was for photo ops with celebrities, with politicians, with diplomats," said deputy fire chief Jimmy Riches, who spent months digging for his firefighter son.

"On 9/11 all he did was run. He got that soot on him, and I don't think he's taken a shower since."

Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, a union that fiercely opposes Giuliani, said he doubted Giuliani misspoke.

"I think he was simply showing what his true character is ? a self-absorbed, self-deluded promoter who got caught and is now just simply trying to backtrack," Schaitberger said.

yes, of course Giuliani is a liar. Here is another example from an op-ed on Coney Island in today's Daily News: "And in a 2004 court case, then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani was finally forced to admit under oath that he had ordered the demolition of the derelict Thunderbolt Roller Coaster after publicly denying that he had been responsible."

This refers to the city's unauthorized middle-of-the night demolition of the privately-owned coaster, which was next to Rudy's pet project Keyspan Park. I believe the coaster's owner was able to collect damages as a result of the court case.

Too bad the American people can't collect damages because of tax dollars misspent on the Iraq War due to the Bush administration's lies.

nellie - this guy makes Bush look like choirboy.

yep, Rudy is no choirboy and we don't need another lying administration.

I don't think Giuliani will end up getting the nomination anyway. I look at it this way... if Hilary and Rudy are the nominees, we'll have two prez candidates from New York. If Bloomberg runs as an Indie, we'll have 3 from New York. What are the odds of that happening anyway? I don't think the rest of the country will go for it at all. (BTW I'm a NYer so I'm allowed to say this!)
So if the Dem convention is first (it is, isnt it?) and they nominate Hilary, the Republicans are less likely to nominate Rudy. He has a lot of other negatives, too.

I think it will be Hillary and Edwards..
Possibly Romney/Huchabee.. if that were the case is will cause a huge backlash towards the Christian right.

The fact that Rudy is thrice married and went on to socialize with his now wife in a house the taxpayers were paying for while his now ex-wife and children lived there too, won't fly very well in Middle America.

Rudy's got so many skeletons in his closet, it's ridiculous.

Hmmmm....whom to believe....firemen in the trenches who spent weeks or months digging in the dust of fallen comrades, or a chameleon politician trying to suck up to his party's right-wing base....

Tough call....

I hated it when the Republican convention came to NYC for the first time ever in 04, to exploit the memory of 9/11 for their own political gain. One week before 9/11, no less. They were NOT welcomed by the majority of NYers who felt as if NYC was being used.

I hate it that Rudy is trying to exploit the memory of 9/11 to become president. The firefighters aren't going to let him get away with it. They are the real heroes and everyone knows it. What idiot first called Rudy "America's Mayor" anyway?

Yes. Next question.

Wasn't Guliani having his affair right around the 9/11 site? Shouldn't that disqualify this fascist menace?

I just don't understand how it can be that Rudy is leading the other GOP candidates by 20 pts. That's what the latest CBS poll says.

"Giuliani, defying conventional wisdom, continues to show strength among groups not expected to be favorable towards his candidacy. He leads the field among conservatives, those who live in the South and West, evangelical Christians, and voters who think that a candidate's personal life should be a factor in deciding whom to support. " Huh?

makes me feel depressed. reminds me of how seldom I have voted for a president who won (just once, Clinton). Very hard to see things from the pov of the rest of the country, from this island.

Guiliani spent more time watchgng Yankees that with 9/11 victims.

'The results were, considering the mayor's long-standing devotion to the Bronx Bombers, unsurprising. By our count, Giuliani spent about 58 hours at Yankees games or flying to them in the 40 days between Sept. 25 and Nov. 4, roughly twice as long as he spent at ground zero in the 90 days between Sept. 17 and Dec. 16. By his own standard, Giuliani was one of the Yankees more than he was one of the rescue workers. '

Lying does not set Guliani apart form any other politician.

They ALL lie. Why do you think the world, not just the US, is in such a mess?

Lying has become a way of life. I was a big Bill Clinton supporter as President, he looked right into our eyes on camera, more than once and lied big time. So sad. I still admire him on a political level, but as a man, he is not trust worthy and has probably cheated on Hillary many times since then. Ultimately, it shows a corrupt character; sadly, he is no different from any other liar.

obama!
yes they all lie. but i truly think that the longer these people are in power, the more corrupt they become. i have a lot of hope in obama, to me he seems like the real thing: intelligent, caring, genuine, and did i mention intelligent and rational?

obama is an outsider and a seeker of progress. i never voted before, but after bush (the first time) i realized my folly. never again will i not vote.

as for giuliani, he seems quite evil and nasty to me. if he wins, i might just have to move to europe.

f* giuliani!!!
