| writesonwater | Posted 8/13/2007 12:47:26 PM | show profile I know some publications have sampler subscriptions. Since so many of us are freelancers, what about a rotating sampler subscription of consumer magazines that are open to freelancers? I know, that's probably too hard to do. |
| socialite | Posted 8/13/2007 1:55:36 PM | show profile Vanity Fair. Vanity Fair. |

| MsWebWriter | Posted 8/13/2007 3:05:41 PM | show profile Why drop it? Why not just keep Wired as one of the choices? I love the magazine -- and would have had no clue that it was interesting if it hadn't been part of my AG membership. Perhaps there are some other members who feel the same way? |
| amodgirl | Posted 8/13/2007 4:06:16 PM | show profile Thumbs up on Wired For what it's worth, I agree: why not keep Wired? I've loved it and would never have otherwise picked it up. Other ideas: NG Traveler or Adventurer or The New Yorker |
| UrbanMuse | Posted 8/13/2007 4:53:17 PM | show profile I cancelled my Wired subscription so I would agree that it doesn't need to be part of AG membership. How about Writer's Digest or is that too specific for just writers? Would it be possible to check off one from a list of 4 or 5 choices? ------ www.UrbanMuseWriter.com |
| roxannekkb | Posted 8/13/2007 8:25:28 PM | show profile I ditto what others said about Wired. I love Wired and was buying it on the newsstand, and kept meaning to subscribe. If anything, why don't you drop New York magazine? Not all of us live in NY, so it seems like a very odd choice of magazines--one with a very narrow appeal. I usually skim them when I'm at the gym, and then leave it there, but it surely isn't a magazine that I'd ever buy. But as others have said, why not just give subscribers a choice? Let us choose if we want Wired, New York, or whatever. I surely didn't want Jane, and was glad that it wasn't available when I renewed my AG subscription. ------ www.nabeepchen.com |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/13/2007 9:31:26 PM | show profile I sure don't need Wired, not my thing. I guess a choice is a good idea. How about a free book by a member instead, if you're looking for some kind of premium? |
| JerzyGirl | Posted 8/13/2007 9:52:34 PM | show profile How about a Barnes & Noble gift card? Or The Atlantic magazine? Or The New Yorker? How about a list of 6 mag titles to choose from? |
| Metro Writer | Posted 8/13/2007 10:59:15 PM | show profile Vanity Fair, please! It's the magazine that every notable writer says he or she must read each month. |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/13/2007 11:00:45 PM | show profile The New Yorker or Vanity Fair have my votes. |
| kmcg | Posted 8/15/2007 6:38:48 PM | show profile magazine The New Yorker! I live in California and it's the only magazine I subscribe to. For the record, I just received my first issue of New York and I loved it. Both are intelligent and thought-provoking and I just skip the geographically-specific sections. |
| Canadiana | Posted 8/17/2007 9:26:06 AM | show profile Are Canadians able to get the subs? Either Vaniety Fair or the New Yorker is fine; something universally interesting for those not in NY or LA (which I assume is a growing audience). p.s. The "Click Here" link at bottom of post box STILL does not work so I cannot change my screen name. |
| ItsAMysteryNY | Posted 8/17/2007 9:53:56 AM | show profile Vanity Fair!!!!! (I let my subscription lapse when the renewal fee got higher and higher, but still buy it whenever it really interests me and I'd love it included. |
| Steady70 | Posted 8/19/2007 4:23:36 PM | show profile | email poster New Magazine Suggestions My suggestions as a professional photographer who already gets the following magazines, but will throw in my two cents anyway. Keep Wired there are cutting edge, way left field just look at this months contents. * NG Traveler * VF of Course * T & L * Travel and Leisure Why not offer the NYT SUNDAY editions lol call it balance... ""all the news that is fit to print "" and then some Surly other members would love to experience, travel or just continue dreaming about working with these publications. ------ Steve and Iris Steady 70 http://www.steady70.com 646-241-5982 786-444-5235 646-233-2077 |
| EQL | Posted 8/23/2007 10:30:06 PM | show profile Please keep Wired. It is very cutting edge, and the writing is excellent. |
| JCH | Posted 8/24/2007 2:44:51 PM | show profile Yeah I gotta say, New York is great, but Wired is not my thing. I would choose New Yorker 1st, though I''d also like Time, Newsweek or Vanity Fair. |
| photoop | Posted 8/24/2007 7:15:12 PM | show profile KEEP WIRED Keep it as an option. New York (even though i live in Cali) is one of my faves! Add as options: Vanity Fair New Yorker |
| ISR | Posted 8/25/2007 9:29:15 AM | show profile I'd think most people already subscribe to Vanity Fair and the New Yorker. What about that B&N coupon or discount? |
| candylilacs | Posted 8/25/2007 9:24:40 PM | show profile Wow, I am the only one who doesn't read the New Yorker or Vanity Fair. I live in California, too, and have no problem with Wired. I have no problem with whomever wants to give me a free subscription. ------ http://www.mswritesguide.blogspot.com |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/25/2007 11:04:15 PM | show profile The thing is, candy, that you're actually paying for the subscription. Me, I never crack the Wired open -- it's just a pure waste of trees. Vanity Fair, the New Yorker -- that would be helpful to me. |
| ZooZooB | Posted 8/28/2007 2:19:54 PM | show profile I love the New York benefit, so I'd keep that and add either The Atlantic, Harpers or The New Yorker. Who wouldn't want these mags? If this is strictly for NY area, I love Time Out New York. Thanks for asking our opinion. |
| editrixie | Posted 8/29/2007 8:18:50 PM | show profile please don't drop New York! you definitely don't need to live in NYC to benefit from reading it. The New Yorker would be ideal, but I know it's expensive. Any chance of the Sunday NYTimes? (maybe people in LA could get the Sunday LATimes?) It might be easy to cut a deal...would boost circ #s... |
