I have to take a textbook copy editing test (take-home) but have never edited textbooks (college level). I've done plenty of mag and newspaper copy editing, though.

Is there some standard, easy source to go to to learn the basics? For example, the test asks that I prepare a style sheet. What does this mean? And what is typecoding? And what does "manuscript marked" mean?

Does anyone know of a source I can consult? Does Chicago cover these concepts? I'm sure I can pick it up in no time if I can just get a set of definitions and conventions. Any textbook editors out there with suggestions?

Thanks for any input.
