| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 7:36:24 AM | show profile Oh how us liberals can forsee the future - especially when it's FOX News! There's nothing funny about Fox only the pathetic Bill O'Reilly! 'The problem is that Joel Surnow, who created both Half Hour and Jack Bauer, thought he could deliver the right wing's answer to The Daily Show and carve a niche in the market for conservative humor. Only he forgot some important parts, among them, obviously, the Comedy part. Dennis Miller couldn't go on the show and be a comedian; he had to be a commentator. And commentators aren't funny (Miller, when allowed, is still funny, just tragically misguided). And those whose job it is to actually be comedians leave you feeling like you've been pounded over the head with a joke instead of zapped in the gut with it. Secondly, Surnow forgot the single-most important value of timeless Comedy: it unites. Richard Pryor did as much for the easing of racial tension as Julian Bond, and Jim Carrey proved that a white man could kick it with a black cast. Colbert and Stewart make Democrats and Republicans laugh at themselves. They succeed not because of language, political bias or controversy, but because the material is researched, painfully structured and impeccably timed. ' Huffington Post |
| jim.backus | Posted 8/16/2007 11:37:38 AM | show profile | email poster Fox Faux News Wow. The really take themselves seriously over at Faux News. IN an effort to legitimize their 24/7 FNC programming - they took a non-humerous attempt at comedy. Well folks, attacking those with discenting views (particularly those views based on fact and intelligence - not illiterate school yard shouting) really ISN'T funny. What still amazes me is the drones that spew the same untelligent rhetoric and science ficition that is the PNAC and the RNC (ala Fox, Murdock, Rove). Money is a very strong motivation, but I don't know if I could lie as often and as continuously as they without some sort of theraphy and/or hypnosis. The real humor on Fox is watching them "seriously" attempting (and to those of weaker minds) succeeding in fooling the masses. With a straight face. |

I watched Newt Gingrich call Democrats - "unAmerican" the other night, Fox ran the following tag - Obama says, "American soldiers are killing women and civilians in Iraq" - Nice SPIN FOX - Bush Administration has killed over 1/2 million Iraqis - we've lost over 3,000 American lives - so yes, you can say - in our carpet bombing that there have been a loss of "innocent" lives in Iraq. But no politician is "blaming soldiers" - we are blaming Bush. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 1:00:34 PM | show profile Frank - the examples are there every night. No one has to lead you to them - you just have to take your biased blinders off and sniff the air! |
| Cobra | Posted 8/16/2007 1:07:32 PM | show profile What are you guys talking about? Fox News is a 24 hour comedy showcase. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 1:17:13 PM | show profile That we can agree on - they just can't stage it! Here's a great FOX joke - 'How many liberals does it take to fill a rain barrow? I don't know Newt - how many - " A whole lot!" Har-har-har - let's get Dennis Miller in here. Dennis what do you think? "I think Oedipus was laying low for some mother affection when Darmamous the 9th stole his whipping crop and began slapping the eyelids of Windopeeka." har- har - har - Isn't Miller a killer Bill? Hey, Boscoe what the hell did that mean? I don't know - you guys pay him to be the resident genius. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 8/16/2007 1:37:44 PM | show profile just one crimedog is all we ask for |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 1:52:40 PM | show profile frank, "lies" take many forms -- insinuations, agitprop, selective use of data, etc., contortions of language. http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/03/fox_news_crazy_.html here's the thing: You guys have a strange relationship to TV news media. For example: I watch stuff here and there on various channels, but I'm not a "disciple" of any channel, I don't view any talking-head as my personal King, and I don't think ANY network is perfect -- far, far from it. The FNC crew, however, talks about FNC like it's the holy land, that BOR is a King, that all other networks are evil, etc. You don't seem to care about the substance of what's being said -- the actual NEWS. It's just "yeah, my dude clobbered the other dude in the ratings!!! Woo hoo" Never: Hey, my dude presenting a really well-reported piece that showed me something I didn't know about before. Never, never do I hear anything about that. Weird. I recognize this is how many message boards work: Everything gets completely polarized, black vs. white, good vs. evil. But do you guys honestly feel that way when you watch TV? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 1:57:37 PM | show profile I think it exposes FOX junkies as being contaminated by virus news. I haven't read anything here on The Dog Whisperer! |
| roninarizona | Posted 8/16/2007 2:19:37 PM | show profile Fox Faux News Hey Lobo IT calls itself the Fox News Channel, but it is mostly an Extreme Right Wing Opinon Channel. That's why we call it "The Fake News Channel" |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 2:27:34 PM | show profile Frank, here's a challenge for you: Who ever defended the "faking" of news stories? Where did anyone here say that was a good thing? Where has anyone here declared a news personality from, say, CBS as their personal King? You're setting up false argument -- that FNC is beyond criticism or even critical analysis because various other outlets may have done various other bad things. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 8/16/2007 2:28:25 PM | show profile Please just one example!!!!! Come on noname1234 you tell us your the smart one |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 2:29:51 PM | show profile olby: see my post a few inches up on this thread. And thanks for your observation that I'm the smart one! :) |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 2:30:35 PM | show profile Frank - you're doing the whining - trying to validate fake news. None of us so called liberals are crying about any of this shit. You're obviously unemployed or pandhandling and little to do with a day - devoting so much wind on one subject - FOX News. That proves my point - you're contaminated. How do you like the Dog Whisperer? Ceasar handled this vicious bull mastif last week like it was Bill O'Reilly being smacked down by Chris Dodd. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 8/16/2007 2:34:55 PM | show profile Frank you know you've won when crinedog/jazzreport resorts to childish name calling. BTW--- this comedy won the demo everynight it was on except once. |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 2:37:29 PM | show profile PS Frank -- and I know that list of "lies" is the same one you've posted many, many times -- I'm not agreeing with you on those. Someone could look into any of those incidents and get into a whole debate about what was going on with them (i.e., it's a severe stretch to connect reporters with emotional problems who faked stories about things like a convention of hackers until they were caught and canned with some kind of liberal conspiracy). Those incidents going back for a decade or more are not worth discussing. |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 2:42:43 PM | show profile Frank, the fact that fnc is the highest-rated cable news channel doesn't say one thing about the quality of its product. let's say mcdonalds sells more food than any other restaurant. does it then make sense to say mcd's food is the best for you? no. Continuing to post ratings is fine -- if it makes you feel better to know your King gets high ratings, that's great. But that doesn't prove journalistic excellence. sorry. |
| noname1234 | Posted 8/16/2007 2:57:29 PM | show profile frank, frank, frank. I've been fairly polite with you because I do think you actually have the capacity for critical through. no need to start tossing around the f-bomb at me. That's the sign for me to check out of a conversation. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 3:20:52 PM | show profile Hey Frank read the byline on this posting - That very unfunny comedy show was cancelled. Now, why was that? Maybe it wasn't funny - maybe ratings were in the tank - maybe both reasons. With so much passion shouldn't you be out defending something with substance or find a cause worth backing. FOX News doesn't need you to spend your entire adult years preaching in their behalf. They do this nightly. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 4:00:44 PM | show profile Frank - why do you always dodge the facts. The comedy show was axed. You were one of the big mouths acting as if this was the second coming of John Stewart. Sorry not so bright poster - you lost another one! |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 5:26:13 PM | show profile Run Frank run! Where did you Bush and Cheney serve? Dennys? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 6:49:43 PM | show profile Frank - you know it's an ongoing practice at FOX to distort and lie. Wasn't FOX on the front line of the Iraq war tying Al Queda and Saddam together? How many nights did we hear that lie? Look, I know you're a simpleton and need a cut and paste job thrown at you so you can dig up some thirty-year old story to support your bullshit. Oh Frankie - the Clintons murdered Vince Foster. How many times have you spit that nonsense at your friends. Oh, here's another FOX lie - Iraq had WMDs - how about those pipes - all of that yellow cake O'Reilly wears on his face as make-up. Bush told the lies and FOX were happy to repeat them as fact over and over again even when then were acknowleged lies. There you go simpleton! Try again. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 7:41:35 PM | show profile Come on Frank - you're a master cut and paste guy like your child Olby! FOX lied through the teeth taking their cue from Bush and company. So what you're saying Saddam was a mega threat to the US and compliant with Al Qaeda. If you believe that you don't even deserve that free coupon for a box of Frankenberry! How about this - you've never worn a uniform other than janitor at Jack In The Box - so why am I not hearing about you enlisting and taking the knocks like the rest of those young dudes? If that's not applicable - do you feel any pain for the horror Bush/FOX and guys like you have wrought in Iraq? How about the soldiers you want to stay in place? Are you a coward who prefers the security of a message board and the edit icon to get your rocks off? |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 8/16/2007 7:58:37 PM | show profile Just one example crimedog. It should be that hard to find ONE example. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/16/2007 8:28:01 PM | show profile Olby - Mr. Rogers is on - shouldn't you grab your play things and take a seat! |
