| nyazalea | Posted 8/16/2007 1:04:48 PM | show profile I've worked in TV for the past 7 years, going from show to show. The jobs range from two years to two months... Some of which I took to tide me over until something else came along. My resume is getting cluttered with these jobs... and when I've taken a step down for a job for a few months, I'd rather just leave it off my resume... But how do I explain the gap... both on my resume and in person. I'm especially concerned because I want to get the hell out of TV... but a lot people in other fields don't understand the freelance life. Any advice? |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/16/2007 1:36:08 PM | show profile For a freelancer, work can be clustered. How about this? 2001-2003: My Fair Lady, NBC, writer 2003-Present: Freelance writer, TV shows including: JAG (NBC); West Wing (NBC); blablabalbla You're right, many people don't get gaps. Go year to year, and if asked to give details, do so and explain the gaps by saying one gig ended in March and the next picked up in May so you spent the in-between time in research. |

People understand independent contractors. So you just explain, the television industry hires writers as indepedent contractors, and the gigs can last from anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. |
