| ConfidentDesigner | Posted 8/19/2007 4:13:50 PM | show profile | email poster Has anyone used a headhunter to find a good job? I've been going it alone for awhile and am running into pretty low-paying, boring jobs that don't have much of a future for mobility. I'm a nationally award winning art director and designer with a solid background in editorial design (my first love), and lots of exp. in designing/art directing marketing collateral, invitations, annual reports, etc. I've managed a little (usually one or two designers under me) but am ready to become a more strategic creative director, being able to concentrate on the future branding of organizations as opposed to still doing mundane, conversion of files for people, designing a newsletter, or some poster for a lecture. I'm also stuck in "$50s land" (never getting out of the $50s for a salary). I've seen some headhunters advertising some creative director positions paying well into the 6 figures and the description of the jobs sound exactly what I'd like to be doing. Are they just "fishing" or do these jobs truly exist? How does one break into the next level in this profession anyway? Heck, I've got 25 years of experience and armloads of awards. What more does it take? Any suggestions? |
| Little Fingers | Posted 8/20/2007 10:20:46 AM | show profile I recently signed up with a co. called The Boss Group. They appear to have offices in many major cities. I've only gotten one call for a job from them so far, but they also host monthly networking parties that I plan to take advantage of. Costs nothing to be on their list, though if I depended on them for work I'd be in trouble at this point :) http://thebossgroup.com There's also The Hired Guns (http://www.thehiredguns.com) but I think most of their jobs are in NYC. Good luck! |
