| uneedabob | Posted 8/23/2007 5:49:20 PM | show profile | email poster Been a loooong time since I posted anything fun on this board but I enjoy reading these Thursday questions and it's a slow day in freelanceland so here goes. 1. When do you find yourself most alone? The July 4 weekend was tough, when every single person I knew was out of town and I didn't even get any emails or phone calls 2. Which ads or commercials do you like? I hate all ads, all the time, but the Simpsons/Burger King commercials are kind of fun 3. Have you ever cheated on a partner or spouse? Nope 4. What is the meanest thing someone has said about your physical appearance? Well, a huge picture of me appeared in the New York Times in March (it was an article about dating) and I hopefully visited all the blogs thinking I'd see posts from ex-girlfriends but all I read were dozens of comments from people calling me "ugly" (or worse) 5. How much money is in your wallet at the moment? Just hit the ATM--over $100 (been a good year) 6. Are you afraid of death? Not unless I think about it. (Ever heard that standup routine, the premise of which is "words you don't want to appear in your obituary"--entries included "sudden," "lingering," "refrigerator," etc. 7. What is one thing you can't master no matter how hard you try? I can't whistle, and I can't snap my fingers. I am gesturally mute. 8. What are the most serious health issues you have had? I thought I had a hernia the other week during a long walk, but it turned out my underwear had just bunched up in the heat. In my mind I was already clearing the space for a three-day hospital stay. 9. Have you ever been publicly humiliated? See answer #4, above 10. How would your friends describe you to a stranger? Funny, smart, good with kids, a bit too cynical sometimes ~Bonus Question~ How many people have seen you in the nude this week? Not people, but there's renovation going on in my building and a family of mice have moved into my oven. I sincerely hope they haven't seen me nude (while I'm asleep), but like death, I'd rather not think about it. |

| writesonwater | Posted 8/29/2007 4:38:49 AM | show profile | email poster For the women who regularly contribute to this thread I'm working on a project about women and the creative process and I'd love to interview a few of the regular posters on this thread and others -- Janet, Mad, Wineaux, Cat, Caitlin, Angela, others (there's too many to name!) -- for possible inclusion. This would involve a brief phone interview, and an opportunity would be provided to preview the information prior to publication. It will be fun! I've enabled my email in case you'd like to be in touch. Drop me a line at your earliest convenience, as I expect to be done with interviews by the end of September. |

| MsWebWriter | Posted 8/29/2007 12:41:53 PM | show profile The MATH problem Guess there's some real truth to the whole "right brain-left brain" argument. I was impressed (hmmm ... maybe my priorities are backward!) by how many of us seemingly creative types struggled with Math. I swear, the basics are great. Necessary even. But who in their life has ever truly needed to know how to factor an equation? Or used SIN, COS, or TAN in casual conversation? Or needed to remember the Pythagorean Theorem? And my analyst/accountant friends who spend their days with columns of numbers in Excel, plotting curves, creating models and algorithms cringe at the thought of translating that data into a PowerPoint report -- or delivering the presentation to clients. Right and Left brain indeed. |
| jjones | Posted 8/29/2007 2:01:55 PM | show profile pissed off loner I like that. I'm gonna ask my friend to start describing me that way. Maybe I'll changel my handle to "pissed-off loner." |
| keltoi2 | Posted 8/29/2007 3:04:07 PM | show profile MsWeb--There's a scene in "Peggy Sue Gets Married" where an adult Kathleen Turner goes back in time to her high school days. She's sitting in her geometry class as the teacher drones, and she interrupts him, saying, "I know for a fact that I will NEVER need geometry in my life." |
