I Heart Manhattan Matt
I am in the process of moving to NYC, and the first thing I'm going to do is ride the Staten Island Ferry and play "Let the River Run" by my girl Carly :)

Ah yes, Bourne makes the thriller list. But the last two I couldn't watch in the theatre -- too much hand-held action. Small screen for me.

Sleepless in Seattle
Walk in Clouds (not comedy but luscious)
Moonstruck
Love Actually
Baby Boom
Murphys Romance

Fools Rush In
Somethings Got to Give
As Good as It Gets
It Could Happen To You
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Runaway Bride
Corina Corina
Dave
Working Girl
The Quiet Man
Georgia Rule
American Dreamer
Pretty Woman
Overboard
One Fine Day
What Women Want
What a Girl Wants
Green Card
America's Sweethearts
Grosse Point Blank
Wedding Planner
Maid Manhattan
My Best Friend's Wedding
Something to Talk About

Here's a list of some favorites that have a touch of whimsy. fantasy, scifi, headgames or supernatural but are otherwise set within the same century or so. Looking at this I think my tastes run to the mediocre in movies -- generally, when we've rented movies, it was for family viewing.

Groundhog Day Bewitched
Chances Are Big
Frequency Junior
Phenomenon Ghost
Sixth Sense It?s wonderful life
City of Angels The Green Mile
American Dreamr Star Trek IV
Field of Dreams The Others
What Women Want Dr T and Women
Liar Liar Next
Déjà vu Kate & Leopold
Just Like Heaven Golden Child
Bruce Almighty The Prestige
Back to the Future Enemy Mine
Peggy Sue Got Married Shallow Hal
Armageddon The Postman
Batteries Not Included Rebecca
Foxfire Secret Window
Evan Almighty Independence Day
Dragonfly Cocoon

I thought Bourne was OK -- but Matt Damon is a pretty boring actor. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have regretted missing it.

--Borne Ultimatum is worth the price of admission.--

SpinDr ...
Sadly, it's not the same without the World Trade Center.

*SIGH*.

New York is forever changed. That "downtown" energy has never returned.

Did you see Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley? Positively creepy. He did an EXCELLENT job at playing a character who was amoral and creepy.

The Talented Mr. R was wonderful. If you do get a chance to - rent Tell No One - a terrific French thriller.

Groov--so with you on "love jones"

add to that: "Carmen Jones" (the 1954 Dorothy Dandridge version, not that Beyonce bulls***)
"Best in Show"
"Pan's Labyrinth"

Carmen Jones is a must, definitely. I was blown away the first time I saw it.

Also LOVED The Girl in the Cafe. But I love Bill Nighy in anything, pretty much -- he was a kick in Love Actually.

Snakes on a Plane
Vacancy
Borat
Storm of the Century (Straight to DVD film based on the Stephen King book)

Not clear on the criteria here, and wow took half the imdb catalogue ;-) (I happen to agree with most), so I'm just going to go from the strictly worth watching standpoint and toss out some that flew below the radar but are, well, worth watching. Oh--and one very NOT below the radar.

Lord of the Rings trilogy--even if you could care less about fantasy, it's brilliant moviemaking.
The Iron Giant--Brad Byrd's earlier effort before that little animated film called The Incredibles. Very sweet, very well done.
Crossing Delancy--Peter Riegert and Amy Irving in a light little film that slyly asks, "What is important in a significant other?", especially in The Big City.
Frequency--Dennis Quaid is a firefighter in Queens who dies in a fire in 1969; Jim Caviezel is his cop son 30 years later who finds his dad's shortwave radio and finds himself talking to his dad, before he died. Son warns Dad about his dying in the fire, and that changes everything. Very interesting, great father/son flick with the '69 Mets to boot!

And of course, there's Harold and Maude (boy [21] meets girl [79], Galaxy Quest (hysterical take on Trekkies), Leap of Faith (surprisingly solid turn by Steve Martin as a shyster evangelist in the Midwest).

Have plenty more, but I'll leave it at that for now.
