| SpinDr810 | Posted 8/29/2007 7:06:31 PM | show profile I Heart Manhattan Matt I am in the process of moving to NYC, and the first thing I'm going to do is ride the Staten Island Ferry and play "Let the River Run" by my girl Carly :) |

| SpinDr810 | Posted 8/29/2007 7:58:39 PM | show profile This is great for my Netflix list! |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/29/2007 7:59:02 PM | show profile Borne Ultimatum is worth the price of admission. |
| SpinDr810 | Posted 8/29/2007 7:59:35 PM | show profile Nanny Diaries is not. |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/29/2007 8:43:35 PM | show profile Ah yes, Bourne makes the thriller list. But the last two I couldn't watch in the theatre -- too much hand-held action. Small screen for me. Here's a more complete list of romantic comedy: Hitch Notting Hill You?ve Got Mail Bewitched Sleepless in Seattle Walk in Clouds (not comedy but luscious) Moonstruck Love Actually Baby Boom Murphys Romance While You Were sleeping Fools Rush In Somethings Got to Give As Good as It Gets It Could Happen To You Four Weddings and a Funeral Runaway Bride Corina Corina Dave Working Girl The Quiet Man Georgia Rule American Dreamer Pretty Woman Overboard One Fine Day What Women Want What a Girl Wants Green Card America's Sweethearts Grosse Point Blank Wedding Planner Maid Manhattan My Best Friend's Wedding Something to Talk About Sweet Home Alabama Buddy Movies for Girls: Ex-Wives Club Steel Magnolias Working Girl Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Now & Then Hannah and her Sisters Little Women |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/30/2007 1:16:08 AM | show profile Here's a list of some favorites that have a touch of whimsy. fantasy, scifi, headgames or supernatural but are otherwise set within the same century or so. Looking at this I think my tastes run to the mediocre in movies -- generally, when we've rented movies, it was for family viewing. Groundhog Day Bewitched Chances Are Big Frequency Junior Phenomenon Ghost Sixth Sense It?s wonderful life City of Angels The Green Mile American Dreamr Star Trek IV Field of Dreams The Others What Women Want Dr T and Women Liar Liar Next Déjà vu Kate & Leopold Just Like Heaven Golden Child Bruce Almighty The Prestige Back to the Future Enemy Mine Peggy Sue Got Married Shallow Hal Armageddon The Postman Batteries Not Included Rebecca Foxfire Secret Window Evan Almighty Independence Day Dragonfly Cocoon |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 8/30/2007 2:05:35 AM | show profile I thought Bourne was OK -- but Matt Damon is a pretty boring actor. If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have regretted missing it. --Borne Ultimatum is worth the price of admission.-- |
| ManhattanMatt | Posted 8/30/2007 5:04:43 AM | show profile SpinDr ... Sadly, it's not the same without the World Trade Center. *SIGH*. New York is forever changed. That "downtown" energy has never returned. |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/30/2007 5:12:14 AM | show profile Did you see Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley? Positively creepy. He did an EXCELLENT job at playing a character who was amoral and creepy. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 8/30/2007 7:43:03 AM | show profile The Talented Mr. R was wonderful. If you do get a chance to - rent Tell No One - a terrific French thriller. |
| mad fingers | Posted 8/30/2007 7:57:09 AM | show profile Wings of Desire I Know Where I'm Going The Red Shoes Mr. Smith Goes to Washington The Replacement Killers Buckaroo Banzai Rebecca |
| Mag Girl | Posted 8/30/2007 10:22:45 AM | show profile Oh my GOSH, Batteries Not Included! I hadn't thought about that movie in years, ha. |
| GrOoVaL!c!OuS | Posted 8/30/2007 11:05:56 AM | show profile I'm sticking with just four...for now. Primal Fear love jones The Usual Suspects Steel Magnolias |
| caitlinkelly | Posted 8/30/2007 11:47:45 AM | show profile Dr. Zhivago The Devil Wears Prada Castaway (?); the one where Tom Hanks lives on a desert island for years alone anything by Lina Wertmuller or Werner Herzog |
| gimmemags | Posted 8/30/2007 11:57:15 AM | show profile Groov--so with you on "love jones" add to that: "Carmen Jones" (the 1954 Dorothy Dandridge version, not that Beyonce bulls***) "Best in Show" "Pan's Labyrinth" |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/30/2007 12:02:05 PM | show profile Carmen Jones is a must, definitely. I was blown away the first time I saw it. |
| writesonwater | Posted 8/30/2007 12:03:19 PM | show profile Also LOVED The Girl in the Cafe. But I love Bill Nighy in anything, pretty much -- he was a kick in Love Actually. |
| Janetblueyes | Posted 8/30/2007 12:07:25 PM | show profile My list reveals my lack of sophistication, but here it is: Snakes on a Plane Vacancy Borat Storm of the Century (Straight to DVD film based on the Stephen King book) |
| keltoi2 | Posted 8/30/2007 12:26:15 PM | show profile Not clear on the criteria here, and wow took half the imdb catalogue ;-) (I happen to agree with most), so I'm just going to go from the strictly worth watching standpoint and toss out some that flew below the radar but are, well, worth watching. Oh--and one very NOT below the radar. Lord of the Rings trilogy--even if you could care less about fantasy, it's brilliant moviemaking. The Iron Giant--Brad Byrd's earlier effort before that little animated film called The Incredibles. Very sweet, very well done. Crossing Delancy--Peter Riegert and Amy Irving in a light little film that slyly asks, "What is important in a significant other?", especially in The Big City. Frequency--Dennis Quaid is a firefighter in Queens who dies in a fire in 1969; Jim Caviezel is his cop son 30 years later who finds his dad's shortwave radio and finds himself talking to his dad, before he died. Son warns Dad about his dying in the fire, and that changes everything. Very interesting, great father/son flick with the '69 Mets to boot! And of course, there's Harold and Maude (boy [21] meets girl [79], Galaxy Quest (hysterical take on Trekkies), Leap of Faith (surprisingly solid turn by Steve Martin as a shyster evangelist in the Midwest). Have plenty more, but I'll leave it at that for now. |
| GrOoVaL!c!OuS | Posted 8/30/2007 1:15:21 PM | show profile 4 more Tsotsi (foreign film from South Africa) Something New -- Sanaa Lathan is totally worthy of a girl crush I'm Gonna Git You Sucka -- the funniest movie of all time Nobody Knows (foreign film from Japan) |
