| Iron Eagle | Posted 9/9/2007 8:13:22 AM | show profile Now, there's a good time. Christian Bales is super in whatever he does. He even makes Russell Crowe seem ordinary. The story is has been played a thousand times and a good portion implausible considering eight guys couldn't slip into most western towns - take over and come out alive. The old west was made up of tough folks who didn't take kindly to outsiders. This isn't the Unforgiven - but good escapism none the less. |

| writesonwater | Posted 9/9/2007 11:38:44 PM | show profile Crimedog, I'm hearing people rave like it's Unforgiven. Maybe I'm the only one who thought Unforgiven wasn't all that? Sure, dramatic and all. Actually, I love Open Range, one of the Kevin Costner pieces I DID like (there's many I don't) |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 9/10/2007 12:06:49 AM | show profile Writer - it's wonderful western fluff done in a classic style. Lots of predictable incidents and characters yet it's no Unforgiven. For my taste Tommy Lee Jones border film - The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada is unforgettable and truly excellent piece of contemporary western flavour. There's plenty bad hombres and Christian Bale was on the mark in Yuma. For me Russell Crowe will always be the Gladiator and Master and Commander my all time favourite seafaring flick. My wife laughs everytime I pop that in the DVD. There are days I can't resist the creak of wood and forty foot waves thrashing about. ' Have you every been to sea Billy?' |
| jjones | Posted 9/10/2007 5:54:56 PM | show profile I saw it last weekend too At the concession stand my husband asked me what kind of candy I wanted. I said I didn't want any. He got some Skittles. I enjoyed the double-dose of eye candy. Delicious! |
| bart23ny | Posted 9/10/2007 6:24:12 PM | show profile I want to see this film. I just found out it's based on an Elmore Leonard story, too. |
