"Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda ? worse for our society. It?s as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was.

- Keith Olbermann in the October 2007 issue of Playboy?"

Olby on countdown.......

"Linking the media to al qaeda is more that indefensible ,it is Un-American."

Damn right! 'Bout time someone pointed out Fox News for precisely what they are. How is what Keith different AT ALL from O'Reilly referring to DailyKos and the ACLU as the equivalent of the Nazis or the KKK?

Keith Olbermann is a great American! Three Cheers!!!

Forgot to mention: Hey, poc, I think Olbermann was talking about the NEWS media when he said that on Countdown. Fox News isn't part of the NEWS media. They're a republican propaganda outlet.

Olbermann is on the mark! FOX News is complicit in the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis as well as ever soldier lost in this worthless situation. It's no different than the religious factions in Rwanda calling for killings. They have a pulpit to incite and have used it at every turn. They are demagogues who should all stand trial.

liberals refuse to see their own racism. If BOR had compared MSNBC to the klanand al qaeda than MSNBC would have handle it their classless way and Olby would do a hour long show about it.
robsemail Posted – 9/12/2007 9:17:12 AM | show profile
But Frank, you're making the mistake of assuming that Fox is part of the news media. They aren't!

You must never assume. When you assume, you make an ASS of U and ME.

"liberals refuse to see their own racism."

In some cases that's true, just as it is with conservatives. One of the many differences is that most liberals know about proper capitalization and punctuation.

Olby, in the future kindly limit yourself to one thread per outrage. Your second thread on this topic has been deleted.

"The POINT of the post was that on his show, Olberloon (in discussing BOR and FOX) claimed that when you compare journalists or news organizations to Al Qaeda, you are being un-American."

You can when you're responding to the one who compared you (or those like you) to the KKK, Nazis, etc. Turnabout is always fair play.

The question for you, since it obviously needs to be spelled out in the simplest possible terms, is this: why the double standard? Why is it OK for O'Reilly to demonize his opponents in this manner but not Olbermann? The two are doing virtually the exact same thing, and if Olbermann had been the one who started it I would fully share your outrage at him. Likewise, if Olbermann had made such a comparison regarding ANYONE BUT those who've made a career out of similarly outrageous insults (like, say, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, etc.), I'd be very upset about it. But Olbermann is merely introducing pots to kettles. I see nothing wrong with that.

"Great comeback- dont attack the substance, just comment on grammar. "

Exactly which part of poc's "substance" did I fail to attack?
Iron Eagle Posted – 9/12/2007 12:12:49 PM | show profile
Olbermann thinks about his responses - O'Reilly blows like a sinus infected sea otter.
VeronicaJ42 Posted – 9/12/2007 12:30:05 PM | show profile
I can't believe you're defending Keith's statement. As a minority, I can't believe you would say that Fox News, be it fake or not, is worse than the KKK. I'm neither a Democrat or a Republican, but come on, our priorities are so screwed up. Blaming Fox News for all of our problems will not get us anywhere.
robsemail Posted – 9/12/2007 12:35:50 PM | show profile
Again, Veronica, why one set of rules for O'Reilly but another set of rules for Olbermann? If it's okay for the guy who started this behavior then why isn't it okay for someone who merely responds in kind?
VeronicaJ42 Posted – 9/12/2007 12:41:41 PM | show profile
Also, I don't agree with O'Reilly's statements either, which I find equally deplorable. But to rationalize saying, "You did it first so I'm going to do it back" is equally ridiculous. When can our spineless news media folk start taking the high road instead of making controversial statements for a ratings boost? "A house divided..."
robsemail Posted – 9/12/2007 12:49:56 PM | show profile
Well then I basically agree with you, Veronica, but I still say that turnabout is fair play. O'Reilly has for years condemned most leading liberal political groups - and NBC News, for that matter - with the most vile epithets imaginable. Perhaps you've been outraged by it all along, in which case I'd say you have every cause to be angry with Keith. Perhaps I'm not quite so high-minded as you, but as far as I'm concerned, so long as he confines himself to insulting those who've so viciously insulted him and other liberals (with whom he obviously feels a sense of community), then he gets an enthusiastic pass from me.

Deal with such problems at the source, in other words. It looks silly to only deal with the effects.

Is Fox News burning crosses in the yards of african americans???

Is FoxNews lynching african americans??

Is Fox News leading terrorist actions against african americans?

Many many innocent african americans have be killed, hurt, had their lives destroyed by the klan. Many blacks still are haunted by the klans actions.
Did you think for a second how this would make african americans feel?No you didn't.
And for you Sir , to compare Fox News to the klan is sick and disgusting.
YOU SIR are much lower than Imus.Imus was fired from your network.
MSNBC should do the same to you.

Yay! Question time! I love that game!

Here's one for you (since it's obvious you're hopelessly unprepared to answer any of the other questions that have been posed to you in this thread): did they burn crosses, lynch African-Americans or lead terrorists at YearlyKos?
Olbypocrisy Posted – 9/12/2007 1:14:25 PM | show profile
Olbermann's not comparing YearlyKos to the kkk and al qaeda

Olbypocrisy Posted – 9/12/2007 1:17:03 PM | show profile
Why the double standard robsemail??
Why is it ok for Olbermann to call someone worst person in world,go on rants, fake outrage , when he does the samethings has the people he's ranting about?

Why is it ok for the huff post or daily kos to rant abut racism , than they put black face pics up and link to neo nazi websites?

"Olbermann's not comparing YearlyKos to the kkk and al qaeda."

Very Good!!! Most observant of you to note that OLBERMANN didn't compare YearlyKos to the KKK or al Qaeda. But O'REILLY did. Night after night for a week or more. Did you start several threads to condemn O'Reilly when he did that?
Olbypocrisy Posted – 9/12/2007 1:20:07 PM | show profile
robsemail
BOR didn't start "it".Olby has being doing theses same kinda of things since his ESPN days.

Olbypocrisy Posted – 9/12/2007 1:22:38 PM | show profile
But O'REILLY did
But O'REILLY did But O'REILLY did But O'REILLY did

But O'REILLY did But O'REILLY did But O'REILLY did

So if BOR went and murdered 20 people than it would be ok for Olbermann to do the same?
After all Bill O'REILLY did it!!!

"Why is it ok for Olbermann to call someone worst person in world,go on rants, fake outrage , when he does the samethings has the people he's ranting about?"

Olbermann did the same thing IN RESPONSE. In other words, he turned the tables. And your outrage wouldn't be so off-base if you condemned the similar and worse comments from others whom Keith was talking about. But for some reason the only person you want to condemn is Olbermann.

"Why is it ok for the huff post or daily kos to rant abut racism , than they put black face pics up and link to neo nazi websites?"

I asked you before to please post a link to what you're talking about. I'm a daily reader of HuffPo and I can't remember any such thing. I'd be VERY interested to see it.

"BOR didn't start "it".Olby has being doing theses same kinda of things since his ESPN days."

Olbermann compared someone to KKK or al Qaeda on ESPN? When?

"So if BOR went and murdered 20 people than it would be ok for Olbermann to do the same?"

Of course not. Calm down. Nobody said anything about murdering anyone (you certainly have an active imagination, I must say). We were talking about insulting people by comparing them to the KKK or al Qaeda. Try to remain focused.
