I work at a magazine catered to caribbean american lifestyle and music, it is a glossy, sophisticated publication. We need more talented writers who need clips, who can do book reviews, profiles, features, etc...dont want to post on craigslist.

craigslist is a free listing service, suitable for finding people who want to work for free or nearly for free. if you want professional writers, be sure not to ask writers to work for clips.

WOW.
This is like hiring someone just for the "experience".

You would do better to post a note that says 'Anyone know where I can find absolute beginners?'

You will give some first-timers a leg up.

good luck!

Anyone know where I can find place free advertisements?
Meccalis -- I'm interested in advertising my home-made jerk chicken in your magazine since you say its a glossy sophisticated publication. I'm looking to place my ads in publications that need ads, just as you're looking for writers who need clips. Could you run my ad for free?

Damn, I thought by clicking on this subject head I would find a nasty albeit amusing rant by some editor who's sick of dealing with flaky whiny writers who always let him and her down right as deadline approaches. Instead, I find the subject header is meant in earnest. How disappointing.

meccalis, it looks like you need editors, too. Even first-time writers desperate enough to write for free want a *good* clip that they can use to get better work.

Right here.

I earn no less than $1 a word on any of my projects.

If you want glossy and sophisticated, you'll need to pay a rate that's glossy and sophisticated.

What's your general pay rate? There are tons of places to find writers, but the quality of writer you'll find depends on the first question. If you are looking for people who are just writing for clips, craigslist is as good as any.

Have you checked?
The unemployment office?
The soup line?
Under the overpass?
A ditch?

Could be we're jumping to conclusions here. He/she didn't specifically say he/she wouldn't pay. Although it's interesting we haven't heard a response...

Actually, now that I think about it, the OP in effect just posted a free ad on a media board frequented in large part by freelance writers. He/she knew what she/he was doing, i.e., getting a service without paying. That leads me to suspect cash is not in the offing for the recruited writers...
