I mean I turned it in a month ago and they want to go to press at the end of the week and so the editor wants the rewrite now.

Not the last four weeks, not even last week, but now and within the next 24 hours. I work full-time! I can't spend a day tracking down officials across the country.

Yes, I will try, because I want to write for this publication and department again (it will open doors for me!) but doesn' t this editor see how difficult this is? And how I may not be able to do this? Do they even care?

Sorry, I needed to vent.

You got to do what you got to do. But it is a liberating point in your career when you can confidently tell an editor "No" and not care what happens next.

Candy, I agree. Drives me crazy. All that time to mess with it -- and then all of a sudden, they're on deadline and it's like it's the first time they've seen it.

So what was the first deadline for?? ;)

That said, I realize editors have their own piles of work that keep them from getting to it before hand, especially in these days of leaner editorial budgets. And I do love the thrill that comes from saving the day ...

but you have to wonder, what in the world would they do if I was out of the country, researching in a remote part of the globe without email? They'd have to make do ...

It was observed by my wise ass boss...
"One awe shit, equals a hundred ata' boys." And he meant it. Intead of blogging, shouldn't you be rewriting?

Since when is blogging equated with doing nothing else?
