Topic: Book sales/print runs?

| scribble | Posted 9/27/2007 10:36:37 AM | show profile | email poster Is there a way to find out how many copies of a particular book were published or sold? I'm working on a book proposal and there's a similar title that was published overseas. I'd like to use the sales figures of that title in my proposal to show that there was interest in this topic. The book's pretty obscure (as is the topic), but I have an ISBN number. I've tried contacting the publisher directly but so far haven't heard a word. Any insight? |

Even "bestselling" book lists are only based on the numbers reported from a selection of book sellers, not real hard number of books sold. IME, publishers are only willing to give out sales figures for highly successful titles. And even then, they're embellished to sound even more impresive, such as using terms like "units shipped" which can be significantly offset by "units returned." |

And I believe that only covers US sales. The publisher probably isn't going to give you the information. |
