Topic: Retainers -- how to arrange them?

I've started working closely with a marketing agency in town and want to propose they put me on retainer (I'm a writer/editor). Does anyone who has done this have any advice on how to structure such an arrangement? How to charge, what to promise (accessibility/availability), how to prioritize retainer work with other client work, etc.? I want to make this mutually beneficial, of course.
