| frantic | Posted 9/30/2007 8:55:48 AM | show profile Can anyone give me a ballpark of standard pay to do a first edit--proofreading and light editing-- of a fiction manuscript, just to get it ready to shop around to agents? I have a friend looking to hire someone for this and is asking me what I think it will cost... And I haven't a clue. Would it be by the page? |

| dribbledrive1 | Posted 10/1/2007 4:06:39 PM | show profile People often charge by the word or page -- that way you know upfront what the fee will be. If you pay by the hour, you don't know. Fees tend to be all over the place. I've seen as low as one to two cents a word for light editing -- which would be about $800 to $1,000 for the standard size novel. |
