Topic: Notebook organizing?

| FeaturesGal | Posted 10/5/2007 12:02:29 PM | show profile I figured someone on here must have some tips for me. I freelance from home and, currently, my desk is a horrid mess. (I share it with my husband and all of his computer game stuff.) I have old notebooks everywhere-- some with things still ongoing, others with completed projects. My notebooks are a MESS and are hard to navigate. I'm looking for ways to keep my notebooks organized so I can find my stories easily. I'm also looking for storage ideas (I have two toddlers so keeping things away from markers and crayons is great). I've got 5 articles due before the 16th-- business is booming, so I need to get my act together in organizing. Thanks. |

I just make a file for each assignment on my computer, and have different categories within the files -- interview notes, background material, drafts, etc. Makes it easy to find everything. I have pretty much done away with paper files. |

A scanner is great, but first you have to get the papers you need now under control. I suggest you go to www.levenger.com and order a Circa notebook and hole punch. The Circa notebook pages can easily be moved from one section to the other because there is a gap in each hole. The Circa series has different size papers, too, but the punch is universal. You can even put scraps of paper into a Circa notebook. When you get a scanner, you should seriously consider buying a Palm Pilot if you don't already have one. It can replace your Rolodex and it goes everywhere with you. It even fits into a Coach swingpack. The smallest, simplest Palm Pilot will do. It's just under $100.00 and it synchronizes with Outlook so you will always have a back up of your contents. This is very important because Microsoft isn't perfect. My Outlook fritzed out and I lost everything, except for the contacts and task list on my Palm Pilot. (I still use a traditional calendar.) |
