I'm sitting her in my office, with the window open, listening to the rain and thunder. The air smells delicious from the rain and the drying leaves. It's six, and a church not far from here is joyfully chiming a song I can't quite place, but it is lovely, all the same.

I'm in an even better mood, because after a volunteer job that I do on Thursdays to get myself away from my office, I stopped by a local donut shop that homemakes their own
.
I commented to them I had been told by many locals that they had awesome donuts, and I'd just moved to the area and was really looking forward to that first bite.
On the house, they gave me a bag with every flavor of donut they sell, and told me that they hoped I liked the area.

I tell you, I am actually feeling rather warm and fuzzy about my town right now. Could it be the sensory overload? Or maybe it's just because the donut shop owners are New Yorkers and had a warmth I haven't come across around here too often.

Or, it could just be the freaking awesome donuts.

What a nice surprise. I am sure it is being on the receiving end of such a lovely gesture AND without a doubt - the donuts.

Like ice cream, donuts make people happy.

I was born in CT, and I remember so well how delicious real donuts are. In particular, my father was a fisherman and used to dump my mother and I off at Block Island for the day and I remember they served fresh, warm cinnamon donuts that they made right in front of you near the docks in the harbor. I wonder if they still do?

CA used to infuriate me. Donuts positively sucked everywhere you went. Even when natives said they were good they tasted like dung.

That cinnamon and sugar one I got as a present today was the best one I've had in years. I think it tasted even better b/c it was given in good will.
