| ManhattanMatt | Posted 10/16/2007 3:11:17 PM | show profile ...there's more to this story than we're being told. No one gets "mugged" on 39th and Park in 2007, especially if there's a DOG with them. |
| crimedog | Posted 10/16/2007 3:33:18 PM | show profile It's weird - one post says is was politically motivated. |
| TVchick | Posted 10/16/2007 4:37:43 PM | show profile I am horrified. I used to work with her! |
| wineaux | Posted 10/16/2007 4:40:41 PM | show profile Her lawyer is saying it was an accident and not a mugging, I suppose there will be a lot more speculation and claims made shortly, however. Anyone know where a valid article is about the incident? |
| crimedog | Posted 10/16/2007 4:56:27 PM | show profile She should be on prime time.. |
| pamelabeth | Posted 10/16/2007 5:52:17 PM | show profile matt, i thought the same thing--mugged, at that location, in these times? there'd be quite a few doormen on that block, i think, for starters. but what kind of accident would this be? what kind of accident knocks your teeth out? |
| bulletinizer | Posted 10/16/2007 7:24:31 PM | show profile The haters - they did this! From the NY Post. Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today. Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy. "Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we're winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?" A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said. Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime." The network released a statement that said Rhodes "experienced an unfortunate incident." "The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded," the statement read by a receptionist at the network's New York offices said. "Ms. Rhodes is looking forward to being back on the air on Thursday." Still, the tale lived on in the blogosphere. |
| westsidestory | Posted 10/16/2007 7:44:14 PM | show profile That's despicable. The woman was hurt, and badly. |
| crimedog | Posted 10/16/2007 8:02:31 PM | show profile She's an amazing force! |
| wineaux | Posted 10/16/2007 11:48:13 PM | show profile I could see falling while walking a dog. My big ape of a dog saw squirrels yesterday and took off at full speed. If I hadn't had flats on, I would have taken a serious fall on the pavement. She may very well have just fallen face first. It happens every day. |
| chucho | Posted 10/17/2007 12:11:27 PM | show profile I feel bad for her, more than I would if BOR lost all of his teeth (consider it my liberal bias) and I think AAR is partly responsible for being vague about the incident. However, I do kinda think Randi Rhodes is annoying. She shouts people down at least as much as BOR. I've found some instances where I think she's loose with the facts (ie tends to take the most extreme estimations or statistics on which ever side she takes). I find her bad for the liberal cause, especially considering he deep admiration for Hillary Clinton, who is not a liberal but rather a Centrist Bourgeoisie Hawk who takes money from Citibank (probably the only kind of person that can win a presidency these days). She was mercilessly against Ralph Nader's citizens' right to run for president and she's openly called more than once for bombing and occupying Saudi Arabia on her program (but is disproportionally quiet about Israeli violations -- usually sticking to linking things like the bombing of Lebanon to Bush's war policy rather than to Israel's own policies.) Anyway... the shouting-down-people thing is the one that makes her true ass. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 11/25/2007 5:29:38 PM | show profile Another fake hate crime from liberals. |
| crimedog | Posted 11/25/2007 7:12:06 PM | show profile Chuco - I'm glad no one listens to you. You're all over the map. Rhodes has been spot on since the war began. I wish she was allowed to face O'Reilly - Howard Kurtz - anyone of these stink mouths. She's got guts and a thick spine. She's right - if you were going to bomb anyone it should have been the Saudis. Israel didn't blow up the Twin Towers. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 11/25/2007 7:27:56 PM | show profile O'Reilly doesn't book drunks on his show.If she wasn't drunk, she would not have fallen. |
| chucho | Posted 11/27/2007 8:03:45 AM | show profile If nobody listens, why are you responding? As I've said before, I'm not necessarily talking directly to anyone here (usually). But, yeah, Randi Rhodes can be called out for consistently playing games with assumptions and numbers. She shouts people down at least as much as BOR. She's a classic blowhard. If you advocate bombing and invading Saudi Arabia (like she has openly called for) then you are not a liberal. And, for the record, I'm farther to the left than anyone on this board. (And I don't duck and hide out in the bubble of NYC to spout Hilary Clinton-isms to the detriment of real liberals.) I'm all over the map because I've devoted the past 15 years to drawing connections and trying to find the links that people often overlook. You don't have to agree with me, but you should consider yourself lucky that I even participate in this forum (the only one, actually). So, take it because you ARE listening to me. If not, then you wouldn't be replying. |
| chucho | Posted 11/27/2007 8:05:57 AM | show profile And, correct me if I'm wrong, but it turned out that Rhodes actually just had a fall, right, while walking her dog. On the other hand: YES, attacks can occur in that area. Wasn't it 30-something and 2nd Ave. (not far from the fake assault on Rhodes) where that crazy dude recently stabbed that woman walking her dog?? NYC is safe, but shit can happen just about anywhere in Manhattan. |
