I know there have been some posts about this, but I am looking at a web editor job (entry level) where I basically summarize stories from the publication or other sources and send it out in a newsletter.

Seems like a pretty expendable position to me. But what I'm wondering is where could I go from here? Does this give me any transferable skills that will help me move up in the future?

Oops, I meant to post in this beginning. Sorry about that.

It depends on where you want to move up to in the future. If you want to stay working with the Web, then that sounds like a great start. If you want to move into a traditional editorial role (magazine or newspaper), this might be a good start also, since you will be composing a newsletter and moving around copy. Gaining Web experience, in general, I think is a great investment in the career bank, since a lot of traditional print publications are beginning to lean toward this medium more.
