| writesonwater | Posted 10/22/2007 10:34:22 PM | show profile | email poster I've been asked to do a blog (for pay) for one of my freelance clients. I have beaucoups of magazine and newspaper experience and in the OLD days wrote newspaper columns. It will be a three-times a week sort of arts blog about things happening around the state -- anyone have any recommended blogs for me to look at to get ideas? I'd appreciate it ... |
| nellie bly | Posted 10/23/2007 9:45:26 AM | show profile I like Gothamist, which of course has broader coverage than just the arts, but they are often the first to report quirky arts events, and have a unique voice. Their write-ups are very quotable, too. http://gothamist.com/ thre's also an LAist, SFist, etc. but I havent checked them out. The NY Times has an Arts Beat blog which I only discovered recently. It says they cover events all over the world. I dunno, the posts seem a bit long: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/ |

Music for Robots is also a good example; the entries are long enough to offer good information, description, etc. but not so long that you don't want to read. All of the ist (Gothamist and so on) are great; never take themselves too seriously, which I think is something that separates blogs from traditional media. |

| nellie bly | Posted 10/23/2007 11:51:40 AM | show profile for the fine arts, I like Artnet. International news and reviews, plus some quirky columns. http://www.artnet.com/magazineus/frontpage.asp there's also its relatively new competitor from LTB Media (publisher of Gallery Guide, Modern Painters, etc) called artinfo.com. Some of the content is from the print mags, but I do like the concept of the web column...What's In Your Studio?: http://www.artinfo.com/articles/story/25849/whats_in_your_studio_april_gornik |
