| thelittleguy | Posted 10/24/2007 11:38:48 AM | show profile i'm finally learning the art of using some reporting i did for pub A to create a fresh story for pub B. but i'm wondering what protocol is regarding informing/asking sources permission. do you check in with sources before you reuse quotes or info? and does it make a difference if the quotes/reporting were published in a prior story or if they landed on the cutting room floor the first time around? thanks for the input! |

I do check in with sources to let them know I'll be using their info in the second story. If some time has passed, the info may be obsolete, and this gives them a chance to update it. Also, it alerts them that a fact-checker from pub B may be contacting them, so it doesn't come as a surprise. |
