Has anyone taken the plunge? Considering it? I deferred my enrollment five years ago, but I'm just bored with journalism and have thoughts of dollars running through my head again...

Any thoughts?

At 32, am I too old to start? Would a NY firm hire a 36-year-old associate?

if you are really considering being a lawyer, i would suggest serving on jury duty to see how sleazy the whole process is

DO you have a passion for law, or do you just want to make money? Because, in my friends' experience, even most who started out with a passion for law have become jaded over the years, and even the money does not make them happy anymore. If you don't even have a passion for it before school begins, I'd say you're screwed, happiness-speaking. In that case, I'd advise finding another career in which to sell out, ha. :)

But if it would make you truly happy, there are those your age or older who do apply and get into law school, and they do find employment after graduation. Go for it.

You're not too old, but ...
...think carefully about what KIND of law you want to do, and whether in the end it's a fiscally prudent move.

I've fantasized about going back to law school quite often, but I've always held back because

-- I'm single and I can't afford *not* to work for three years;
-- I'll be $120K in debt;
-- it would take me close to a DECADE of working crazy long hours just to get back to my current income.

I've had colleagues who've done this, but only the ones who are married to other professionals who can pay the bills while they go back to school.

Aren't there a glut of lawyers "trying" to practice today?
