| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/5/2007 6:22:20 PM | show profile Yeah... The Hitler/Nazi references are too common now days. On every side of the debate. From the PETA "Holocaust on Your Plate" campaign, anti-abortion activists, and politicians on both sides of the isle are too easy-going with the Hitler references. I wouldn't generally go as far as to call Saddam Hussein "Hitler." Or even close for that matter. He wasn't as bad as Pol Pot, who killed or caused the death of "only" 3 million. Even that comes nowhere near Hitler's mark. Hitler references bug me, but Nazi references not so much. Nazi-ism is still alive, even in the United States. There is even an American Nazi Party. Do I believe Bill-O is a full blown raging Nazi or Klansmen? No, I think he is more of a passive aggressive racist. I feel that most of the FNC is the same way. Racist without even realizing it. |
| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/5/2007 8:19:41 PM | show profile uhhh, no. Keith loves to use obscure, pointless pop culture and media references. There is a real prominent restraunt chain in the Los Angeles area called "Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles." A fictional version was also featured in the movie Tapeheads and the chain is mentioned in many other movies including Rush Hour, Swingers, and Independence Day. The guy's name was Roscoe Parrish. Roscoe Parrish, Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. Get it? When I watch football, I don't even notice skin color and I couldn't generally care less about it. It is a pointless, meaningless, pop culture reference. He didn't say "Wow, the black guy can actually catch the ball!" Nor did he say he get over a black restraunt, with a mainly black clientelle, was just like any other restraunt in New York. |
| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/5/2007 8:40:08 PM | show profile and link me if you can to when he made fun of the asians persons name. |
| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/5/2007 10:22:26 PM | show profile Maglalang OK, I admit it. Keith Olbermann got her maiden name wrong. He put in a "g" instead of an "L". And on the Roscoe thing, Gibson was probably the only one in the room who noticed Roscoe Parrish WAS black! Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe's_House_of_Chicken_'n_Waffles Gibson was the one who made the connection. And was apparently the only one who saw a connection until he put it out there and others grabbed tight hold of it. If it had been a guy named McDonald, there may have been a Big Mac or Ronald McDonald reference. Heck there was even a movie made called "Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles." It was a pointless pop culture reference. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 11/5/2007 11:38:02 PM | show profile Lobo - turn yourself in and get help now. It's truly pathetic - day after day harping on nonsense - stuff billions on this planet could give a shit about! |

| Dead Air | Posted 11/6/2007 8:03:00 AM | show profile Frank, I cant speak to all your charges since I am not a regular viewer of KO, but I am going to repost part of something I wrote back in April concerning the whole 'Nazi salute' flap... "....As for Brother-Trucker's comment about the Nazi seig heil, yes he did but Brother-Trucker, you are being a tad bit disingenuous by failing to note that he was doing it while holding up a cardboard mask of Bill O'Reilly, making a comment on his (KO's) perception of BOR's fascistic tendencies as opposed to a call for white supremacy. True, the ADL did write a letter of complaint but it also did recognized the reason for the imagery, quote, "While we understand that your aim is to entertain your audience by taking pot shots at Mr. O'Reilly..." unquote. I totally understand for survivors of the Holocaust the salute is a bitter reminder, but placing limitations on its usage is not the domain of the ADL. A person can use it anyway they want and the world will decide its validity . It has value if nothing more than to remind you to be wary of blind allegiance, which was obviously KO's point. To quote George Santayana, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." ... I hope this puts it in a little more perspective... |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 11/6/2007 8:25:04 AM | show profile Olbermann has also said no one should ever use nazi references, or compare people to nazis. He attacks anyone on the right for doing so. Than he does his nazi salute and compares people to nazis. |

| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/6/2007 2:10:51 PM | show profile And here we go again. From the ADL 12/8/04: "Dear Mr. O'Reilly: We were deeply offended, as were many of your listeners who have contacted us, at your remark to a Jewish caller on the December 3 Radio Factor that, "if you are really offended" about attempts to convert Jews to Christianity, then "you gotta go to Israel then." American Jews are Americans. Jews and other religious minorities are part of America's great tradition of religious freedom. The discomfort with proselytizing, or the intrusion of Christian teachings in public schools, is a very legitimate concern. More dangerously, your remark plays into one of the oldest anti-Semitic canards about Jews, that they are not full citizens of a country and are not entitled to all of the rights afforded to the majority. The notion that religious minorities have no place in a Christian America and should leave may be acceptable for extremists, but it is unacceptable coming from a popular and respected media commentator. We hope that in future you will be more sensitive to these issues. Sincerely, Abraham H. Foxman National Director " |
| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/6/2007 2:19:41 PM | show profile And here we go again. (pt 2) From the ADL (12/17/03) Dear Mr. Limbaugh: During your December 16 broadcast, in response to a caller's comments suggesting an international tribunal for Saddam Hussein rather than having the deposed dictator tried in his own country by his fellow Iraqis, you referred to the "failed" Nuremberg Trials, describing them as "an absolute joke, an absolute travesty." While we take no issue with your expressed preference for Saddam to be tried in Iraq, and we recognize significant differences between the situation in Germany of 1945 and that of Iraq today, we object strongly to your unjustified and offensive statement. The fact is that the Nuremberg Tribunal was established by governments against which the Hitler regime waged a world-wide war costing the lives of millions of their soldiers and civilians. Moreover, the Nuremberg proceedings presented the first and most important venue for exposing and documenting the true nature and extent of the Holocaust, establishing a precedent for the prosecution of the horrendous crimes of the Nazi regime, defining the then-newly recognized crime of genocide, and recognizing the need to condemn crimes committed against humanity. Like the fight against terrorism, the Nuremberg Trials were a serious contribution to the defense of civilization itself. Their meaning and value deserve better than to be trivialized by your dismissive comments. Sincerely, Abraham H. Foxman National Director |
| newfrickinshow | Posted 11/6/2007 3:01:04 PM | show profile And it goes on Ann Coulter, Brit Hume, Sean Hannity, PETA, Chris Matthews, Vince McMahon, Pat Buchanan, Mike Huckabee, Mel Gibson, John McCain, the Bush-Cheney campaign, moveon.org, Pope Benedict the XVI, Tom Tancredo, and yes Keith Olbermann have also had problems with the ADL. And what does chicken and waffles have to do with black people anyways? |
