| Iron Eagle | Posted 11/4/2007 6:02:14 PM | show profile BILL MOYERS: It's important who owns the press, as we've just seen and heard...but it's also important who decides what is news. Why wasn't it news last weekend when more than 100,000 people turned out in 11 cities across the country to protest the occupation of Iraq...Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Orlando, Salt Lake City, New Orleans, Jonesborough, Tennessee. but if you blinked while watching the national news, you wouldn't have known it was a story. We found less than two minutes of scattered mentions on television, and not even the Associated Press reported on other demonstrations in smaller cities. BM |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 11/4/2007 6:27:12 PM | show profile Why is it imporant to show every anti war \ anti American protest? How do we know it was 100,000? Who was counting? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 11/4/2007 7:06:18 PM | show profile To educate guys like you. |
| ManhattanMatt | Posted 11/4/2007 7:15:09 PM | show profile As one of those people who "decides" the network news ... ...I can tell you anti-war protests are no longer "news". Unless there are MILLIONS of people turning out ... or deaths involved ... anti-war protests have now become the "white noise" of television news. Yeah, we know it's an illegal war. Yeah, we know people are pissed about it. Next? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 11/4/2007 9:04:43 PM | show profile Moyers is a true journalist with a great history - honest and decent unlike the snakes you guys wallow in the pit with. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 11/4/2007 9:34:40 PM | show profile crimedog lol look whos talking. Bill Moyers attacked BOR and Fox News.Instead of standing up defending what he said he lied. Straight up lied. Bill Moyers is nothing more than a liberal hack. |
| JIMBO99 | Posted 11/5/2007 10:49:07 AM | show profile Hey Dog....Let's see if I got this! Soooo, when 100,000 anti-war protesters turn out..it's HUGE, but when BOR registers over 500,000 total viewers..it don't mean shiiit???? Funny how that works Lib. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 11/5/2007 12:35:25 PM | show profile 'Soooo, when 100,000 anti-war protesters turn out..it's HUGE, but when BOR registers over 500,000 total viewers..it don't mean shiiit???? Funny how that works Lib.' jim - what kind of reasoning went behind this response - Zero?. The Anti- War protesters count for a lot - BOR counts for nothing. That's simplistic but fits your initial response. O'Reilly is not important to anyone but those who wrap themselves it the myth. He stands for nothing - is nothing and is nothing more than a money dredging provocateur filling his coffers off of the limpid of mind. Moyers is the real deal and so is the acquisition of media by barons who will in all likelihood ignore the things that make them uncomfortable or confront their income no matter how shady the dealings. This is killing a free press. |
| JIMBO99 | Posted 11/5/2007 1:44:44 PM | show profile HEY DOG.... 100,000 out of a possible 300,000,000....NOT A BIG DEAL LIB! |
| Conservative Realist | Posted 11/5/2007 2:32:36 PM | show profile | email poster Anti War is NOT Anti American whether it's 1,000 or more shouldn't matter. However the fact remains that millions NOT hundreds of thousands of Americans are opposed to the war. Bush is determined to win a war (ANY WAR) before leaving office. Aside of the "war on terror". I support the troops but NOT the war. Protesters nationally is a news worthy story only media is NOT as "Free" as the free press we thought we were entitled to as Americans. Islam is NOT the leader in terror. FYI: Christian groups still hold the lead in terror groups. We'll just call them the Bush Administration. The Europeon Union relies on middle eastern/ foreign oil NOT the U.S.A. The U.S. does not war for democracy but rather control of natural resources to up our stock market shares. The U.S. has more than enough resources from Alaska to the Florida coast line. Wanting to use more, consume more and profit more IS why we're at war and no other reason. The Carlyle Group, in operation with the Bin Ladens is no secret. The Bush family is in with the Carlyle Group. Who cares? Maybe all the protesters nationally. That has nothing to do with liberal ideologies but rather an American concern. The U.S. has become a prime target of enemies we've created by exploiting foreign lands for their natural resources then going to war to then take over. My nephew is off to war now and shouldn't have to for the select few who do rely on this war. The investors in the foreign oil trade, NOT American drivers. The ignorant masses that fear terrorism should pay attention to the fact that we're losing our personal rights since the Bush regime took office. As a conservative I vote on platform, not parties considering the Republicans did more at a time, for people of color and the less fortunate. That changed along with the Democrats party. It doesn't take a white or black man to run public office nor a woman but rather a qualified person. The first black or woman may seem like news worthy stories along with exactly how many people are opposed to the war. How about if media reported on what the masses view as news worthy stories like our global warming mostly due to fossil fuels being burned. Oh yeah, that would appear too green or liberal. Usually the type of person who thinks it's insulting to consider someone a liberal an insult. Put aside your beliefs of optimism or pessimism and focus on the realism. We supported Iraq against Iran, provided weapons of mass destruction so we thought we'd find them when doing our search once we lost sight of looking for Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. We destroyed a country looking for a person our president worked with, then went to another country to refocus our mistake, blunder or false entry into Afganistan by blasting Iraq. Saddam is out finally by any means necessary. Rah rah the American way. Only our troops are losing a war with non-military people that want us out of their land. Our war bringing democracy to people that have their own ideals isnt' working. I guess that'll be one country that will not allow us to further take their natural resources for trade. |
