I was just given a major new responsibility in addition to my normal editorial duties. It is something that definitely takes up more of my time. I was given this new responsibility without any mention of compensation. Normally, I would just ask for it. But I'm leaving this job in four months (and my boss knows it). After I leave, I hope to continue to do contract work for the publication, so I'm trying to leave on very good terms. So, should I still ask for extra compenation for the next four months? Or should I just let it lie?

Definitely ask for it. Why not? Worse thing that can happen is that they say no. You don't know til you try!
