have been asked to write website copy and was asked my per page rate...

how much copy is on a standard page and any advice on what to charge?

I don't have a standard per-page rate. The copy on a web page can vary significantly depending on how it's rate out. Also, diifferent types of projects require different amounts of work. In this case, I would ask them for the specifics of the projects they need done before providing a quote.

As a general rule of thumb, never be afraid to ask a client for more info before putting in a bid. It's better for everyone, them and you.

they did send me a layout of what they want and how many pages they thought each section would be... It's pretty easy writing so I was thinking of a flate rate of .40 per word - what do you think?

There are a lot of things to consider. Is this corporate or editorial, for instance?

Personally, I consider .40 pretty low. My tendency would be to go high and then negotiate. I would ask for at least a buck a word and see what happens.
