I have been watching my site visits and using those in-house web analytics to gage our ranking and to promote our brand in preparation for adding advertising. But I was astounded to see where our website ranked when I started using Netcraft's site ranking and anti-phishing tool for Firefox browsers.

There are over 140 Million domain names registered in the world wide web. As we are a book group social networking site, I discovered that our site, www.bookbuffet.com ranked 118,330 (that's in the top 8%) which is in the same range as www.health.com (118,305).

Here is how other book related websites ranked:
Oprah.com (7,478)
Media Bistor (11,428)
ReadingGroupGuides.com (168,477) and I thought this site would be WAY ahead of me.
PENGUIN BOOKS (1,231,516)

Go ahead a plug in your site. Here's how.

Now I am taking offers for advertising on our site - knowing how popular it actually is. BRING IT ON FOLKS.

Don't know much about Netcraft but if it's anything like Alexa, it may be extremely inaccurate -- as in exponentially inaccurate.

Well, even if it is spam, it's of some interest to the new media types. I vote to let it stand.

Search engine ranking stuff can be very inaccurate, as previously mentioned, so proceed with caution.

Note: no one ever says "I netcrafted you" or "I Alexa'd you."

Actually, some of the web sites I write for do look at their ranking on Alexa.com.

Then, I wouldn't rely on them being around to pay you for all that much longer.
