Topic: political fence-sitter in the media industry!

| anewstart | Posted – 11/20/2007 6:50:27 PM | show profile I don't want to get into a political debate here about who's right and who's wrong and which candidates suck and which ones rock, but something has been on my mind quite a bit lately and I'm wondering how many of you out there deal with the same situation. I am a socially liberal, fiscally convervative person who happens to work in the media. Politcally I wouldn't call myself a Democrat or a Republican...I have been voting since the second I was old enough (in my mid-30's now) and have voted for Republicans, Democrats, whoever's policies are most in-line with things I believe--and whomever I think is most trustworthy at the time. I have friends and family members on both sides of the fence. While it's fairly obvious to me that the media industry leans to the left, I don't believe in an extreme left-wing bias. HOWEVER: I can't tell you how many times I have been dismissed as an idiot, ignored, even flat-out mocked when people in the industry have found out that I don't align myself solely with the Democratic party. Anyone else find that to be the case? What is that all about? |

Fiscally conservative in that I think it's completely irresponsible to run these massive deficits and pass those debts onto our children. And I guess unlike many of my liberal peers, feel we need to both increase taxes and cut spending to have any hope of getting out of this fiscal mess. But other than the deficit issue, I am very much a liberal. STILL, which party has been more fiscally responsible, at least in recent years? Not that of Reagan, Bush or Bush, that's for sure. |

I detest the NRA - religious right and all of those kinds of horror shows. Democrats at present piss me off - spineless in the face of demigods. If there was ever a time we needed leadership and sanity this is it. I'm an old school Democrat when being a Democrat meant goodwill and progressive thinking. Impeachment procedures should have begun long ago. |
