Topic: Will corporate America taint my resume?

| sarcpo | Posted 11/24/2007 10:11:58 PM | show profile | email poster I moved back to the U.S. after a lengthy stint abroad as a magazine editor for an ESL publication in Europe. In the year or so since I have been back, I have had the worst of luck getting back into traditional media (magazines or newspapers). First gig was at a travel publication for a timeshare industry (I know, corny), but I got laid off earlier this year due to corporate relocation. Now, after three months of unemployment, I got a writing/editing gig at a major travel Web site... Thing is, while corporate America pays well, I am not passionate about this kind of work. I am grateful to be employed, but is this corporate work going to hurt my resume while I continue to look for something that I am passionate about??? |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 11/25/2007 9:19:55 PM | show profile If you're looking for a magazine job, writing for a corporate web site is probably better than a gap of unemployment on your resume. |
| jkdscribe | Posted 11/25/2007 11:23:42 PM | show profile ...and working for any publication certainly looks better on your resume than Starbucks |
| UGoGirl | Posted 11/26/2007 11:10:24 AM | show profile Also, there is no single "corporate america." Some are much better than others. If you can find a company that you personally can feel mostly good about (e.g., probably not ExxonMobil), then you may find it a pleasant surprise. |
