When you look at their TOC on the official site, you feel they must be devourers of freelance material, and icing on the cake -- they pay $1/word (courtesy: HTP). Freelance paradise? Far from it.

* They haven't responded to my numerous generic e-mails.

* They have been on the market for a while, and I never spot freelancers babbling about it.

*They are a self-help pub. History is witness that such pubs don't stand for long. Imagine and Motto are two examples.

While I do feel that I can write for them, I am not frittering away my valuable time pitching dubious pubs. So, anyone any leads on this miracle?

I don't know what the deal is with them, but it's been my observation that well-meaning sites often stay online with no activity after they've shut down most operations -- in an effort to hook prospective investors.

I know that they are a GUIDEPOSTS publication, which means that they have a solid name behind them, but that doesn't mean they won't ever be shut down (GP recently shut down its teen girl magazine). The reason you see so many different names in the table of contents is probably because GP's hallmark is ghostwritten first-person narratives, so they create the illusion that the person telling the story is the one who wrote it. It could be that the staff or freelancers they already know (they sponsor a writing contest every two years, and the winners go on a retreat to learn the GP style, and then they're in their stable of freelancers) ghostwrote the articles. My advice would be to enter the writing contest--although I think it's not until next year--if you really want to get in with GP. That's how they tend to discover new talent. And, by the way, if they pay $1/word, I'm shocked. I wrote a couple of things for their other pubs and didn't get anywhere near that.

Just when Lenagrove's comments started making sense, I heard back from an editor at PT.

I guess I'll throw in my dice.
