| PluckyPane | Posted 11/29/2007 5:00:16 PM | show profile Those days when you think how much you hate Dubya and all that American had become, this could instead be you. If they are willing to imprison a non-Muslim woman for a simple misunderstanding, then you can imagine why they are so angry about Western culture/capitalism. Sudan, by the way, dupped bin Laden about of millions of dollars to build their infrastructure (roads, buildings, etc.) when he lived there in the 90s. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22007049/?GT1=10547 |
| UGoGirl | Posted 11/29/2007 6:42:41 PM | show profile Sudan, another country cursed by oil. But I'm sure many respectable leaders in Sudan are using their profits wisely. |
| chucho | Posted 11/30/2007 4:30:32 AM | show profile NICE POLEMIC! If you hate Bush, then just think how bad it is in the Sudan. Sorry, but that's just idiotic. What does despising the Bush administration have to do with Sudan? What do you know about the Sudan? Are you aware that for years the CIA has WORKED for years with the Bashir regime? http://www.globalpolicy.org/empire/terrorwar/analysis/2005/0429sudan.htm I have two friends there working in international relief. It's a terrible situation, but the US has done jack-shit about it. The only group trying to make any headway there is the "evil" United Nations. Bin Laden?? What about C H I N A? The US can't do shit because it's borrowed so much money from China that it can't push on Chinese investments in Sudan. There's oil in Darfur, and Americans don't give a rat's turd about Arab Muslims slaughtering 100s of thousands of black Muslims (since we began our war to "liberate" Iraqis). But as soon as a white British teacher gets caught in this crap, suddenly we're supposed to care? I feel sorry for her, I'm sure she is a nice person, but clearly something is amiss in this part of the world (Libyan doctors, French child adopters -- clash of civilizations, dictators fixing their weak muscles, etc.) Let me guess: if I hat Bush then I should also think about poor Qatif Girl in Saudi Arabia, also? How does this reasoning work? |
| PluckyPane | Posted 11/30/2007 12:50:48 PM | show profile The point of my post was to celebrate the religious freedom we are guaranteed as Americans. We cry about the war and the price of oil, but we forget about the "little" things that make the American way of life one of the best in the world. Is it perfect? No way, it's far from it. But if you were a teacher, you wouldn't be fired and imprisioned for naming a bear George. In fact, that's where Teddy bear got it's name: Teddy Roosevelt. In politics, it's impossible to understand what the extremists are thinking. In the 90s, Al Qaeda thought our efforts as part of a peace-keeping UN mission was a declaration of war and possible takeover of the mouth of the Red Sea. They bombed a hotel where they thought the Americans were staying, only to kill innocent civilans. We retreated, as they expected us to, and they declared victory. They count on us retreating because we value life in a different capacity and religion doesn't affect our decision to war with another nation. Don't you think they are a little more than pissed that we are encouraging peace and the creation of a Palastinian state between the Israelis and Palastinians? In short, the U.S. can't do much without becoming a larger target by these insane jihadists. It should be handled by the larger blanket (and highly corrupt) organization of the United Nations. Don't even get me started on China. |
