| liagd | Posted 12/5/2007 12:14:39 AM | show profile Yesterday I had a very successful 2nd interview for a really good, p/t in between job -- doing something in which I'm interested and have experience, good pay, nice work env't, flexible hours so I could focus on writing and/or finding a good f/t job. Definitely a step up from the Barnes &Noble gig I have now. I've also submitted an application for a job as associate editor with this great organization in which teenagers publish these terrific magazines. I want this job! This is would be a real career move for me -- great magazine, great pay, actually using my MFA and writing ability, working with kids, nice title. This is the 3rd time I've applied for the position and the two previous times I've received very complimentary and encouraging rejection letters saying that I was a strong contender for the position. So I sent my stuff out again, emailed the e.d. with whom I've been in contact previously, telling him that I'm applying again and am really interested. About 2 weeks ago he sent me an acknowledgment of receipt of my application but I haven't been called for an interview yet. I want to find a tactful way of saying "Would you please interview me already 'cause I'd rather work for you guys than this other gig?" The job doesn't start till January so maybe their taking their time, which they have done in the past. But I'm anxious and want to keep my name in there. I've been advised that I should wait until I have been officially offered the p/t in-between job then send another gentle email to the folks at the job I really want saying that I've been offered a position but don't want to accept if there is any possibility of an interview and position with them (the job I want). I would rather not wait. I want to send something tom'w. Thoughts? Advice? |
| liagd | Posted 12/5/2007 5:44:39 PM | show profile still looking for answers now more than ever So it's official: I got the p/t gig!! Before I got that call I sent an email to the dream job folks that I'm still very interested and excited about that position. I wish I had known about the offer before I sent that email b/c I would have mentioned it. This board has been so helpful in other circumstances. You guys are great. So still looking for thoughts and advice about how best to handle this. Thanks |
| Mag Girl | Posted 12/5/2007 6:52:02 PM | show profile I don't think there is anything to handle at this point- they know you are interested. If you make any additional contact, you are going to look like a stalker, I'm afraid. Just sit back, enjoy the p/t job, and wait to hear about an interview. If they don't contact you, maybe they just didn't find in you what they were looking for when you previously interviewed with them, but still thought you had good skills best suited for another position. Keep applying to other jobs! |
