| Nikongirl | Posted 12/8/2007 1:11:04 PM | show profile Since I didn't answer the Q&A yet, I had this in my drafts folder.... 1. What makes you envious? People who have the money to travel the world and take as long as they like... 2. Who is the biggest windbag you know? BOR, GWB, Falwell, Guiliani, that creep on CNN, Glen Beck...one of the worst. He should be on FAUX. 3. Have you ever witnessed or experienced what you consider to be a miracle? No 4. If we were to search your purse/wallet/backpack/fanny pack right now, what would we find? Pens, small notebook, lipstick, handcreme, business cards, small flashlight, wallet, keys, cellphone. 5. What is the most valuable lost item belonging to someone else that you have found? Several wallets, cellphones, money, sunglasses. 6. What baffles you? That GWB and most of his administration is not in prison yet. YET. 7. What products or stores do feel have unfortunate monikers? Nothing stands out... 8. Do you consider yourself straight, bisexual or gay? Straight 9. Are you grieving anything right now? Yes, democracy and freedom in America. 10. It has been more fun, interesting, and exciting than I ever dreamt it would be. I have a wonderful husband, a great son and daughter-in-law, two fabulous puppies and good health. | writesonwater | Posted 12/8/2007 1:37:07 PM | show profile A do-over. Thanks, Nikongirl -- and JBE. 1. What makes you envious? People who had a strong family base growing up -- and Nikon's answer as well! People who have the money to travel the world and take as long as they like... 2. Who is the biggest windbag you know? I said GWB -- and Falwell and Gingrich. But I would definitely add Rush to the list. 3. Have you ever witnessed or experienced what you consider to be a miracle? At the time, a couple rescues off snowy roads that were closed behind us seemed miraculous. Also, one of my kids was born way preemie and turned out much better than I ever dreamed. 4. If we were to search your purse/wallet/backpack/fanny pack right now, what would we find? Girl things -- and way too much for that size of purse! 5. What is the most valuable lost item belonging to someone else that you have found? Cellphone. A ruby once. 6. What baffles you? The American electorate in the last two federal elections. People who abandon newborns in dangerous or deadly ways rather than taking them to firestations or hospitals. People who hurt children. Harsh parents. 7. What products or stores do feel have unfortunate monikers? Grocery chain in Texas, HEB used to be H.E. Butts. BenGay. Ipecac sounds like what it does. 8. Do you consider yourself straight, bisexual or gay? Straight, 9. Are you grieving anything right now? Yes, 10. What is the nicest thing you have done for yourself this week? Took a day off. Ordered a laptop. I need to treat myself to a facial and massage -- got a bad kink in my neck. ~Bonus Question~ So far, has your life turned out as you hoped it would? All things considered, yes. I admit to some childish fantasies about the kind of house I'd live in, car I'd drive or how much money I'd have, but there were times in my life I didn't think I'd have it this good. |
| reporterwriter | Posted 12/8/2007 6:52:32 PM | show profile 1. What makes you envious? Can't think of anything. I take the attitude that, if I want it, I can make it happen -- maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but someday. 2. Who is the biggest windbag you know? There are several right here on MB! 3. Have you ever witnessed or experienced what you consider to be a miracle? Yes, at the beauty parlor. 4. If we were to search your purse/wallet/backpack/fanny pack right now, what would we find? Pens, more than one lipstick, mirror, comb, new and used Kleenexes, keys, cell phone with hands-free thingie, sunglasses, eyeglasses, receipts, piece of citrine, wallet, spare car key on evil-eye keychain -- it's boring in there. 5. What is the most valuable lost item belonging to someone else that you have found? A child. 6. What baffles you? Freelance writers who expect editors to be Mom and Dad. 7. What products or stores do feel have unfortunate monikers? Piggly Wiggly markets, Bimbo bread, a tire dealer in Arizona called In the Name of Jesus (sells retreads) 8. Do you consider yourself straight, bisexual or gay? Straight 9. Are you grieving anything right now? Two family members, a house and a forest 10. What is the nicest thing you have done for yourself this week? Bought a sack of Dove candies all for me! ~Bonus Question~ So far, has your life turned out as you hoped it would? I don't know what I had in mind on the day I was born, but yes, it has been a really good life -- the problems help me to appreciate the good times, and there have been lots of both. |
| voracious reader | Posted 12/8/2007 7:49:21 PM | show profile BBelinda - could you please elaborate on #5????? I just showed my daughter your answers and she said, "Oh, so you're not the only one who finds children." I've lost count of the number of kids that I've found. It isn't even funny! 1. A twelve year child once approached me while I was waiting at the train station for my husband. She wanted to know if I could take her to her mother who was living in Queens. This was Nassau County! Anyway, I realized she was improperly dressed for the Winter and told her to get into my car and I would figure out how to help her after my husband got off the train. Anyway, she was running away from her foster family! This was way before cell phones, so I had to get very creative about contacting 911. So called "friends" told me later how "stupid" I was for taking her in my car. Clearly, I sleep well at night knowing I never have to look at a milk carton with her picture on it! 2. Before that incident, I noticed a toddler wandering along a busy street by himself. I was looking for an adult following him, perhaps with a stroller. It was early in the morning and there was no one following the child. I put the medal to the metal and quickly jumped out of my car and grabbed the child. I started to yell at people who passed to ask if anyone recognized the child. Luckily, someone pointed to a condo and said they thought the child lived there. The father had gone to work and left the door ajar. The housekeeper was in the basement doing laundry and the mother was upstairs showering while the child was walking along a busy avenue. 3. This summer I was standing across the street from my home talking to my neighbor when a child literally ran between my neighbor and my legs. I didn't recognize the child and noticed he was barefoot. In a split second, I took off after the child asking other neighbors who were on their front porches to help me. I NEVER ran so fast in my life. Everyone I passed was clueless to the situation. I finally grabbed the child who appeared to be around 6 years old. Anyway, I couldn't get a straight answer out of him so I called 911 to report that I found a missing child. I asked if anyone reported a missing child and 911 said no. They then asked if I was reporting a missing child. I said, "No, I found a missing child!" Anyway, this child was autistic. The parents had recently hired a new housekeeper who clearly didn't have a clue. The police stayed in the home for 2 hours with the child, his siblings and the soon-to-be fired housekeeper until the parents arrived home. 4. Shortly afterwards, my youngest son and I were entering a department store when a young child, around 4 years old came out of the store crying. While other people ignored the child, as they entered the store, I immedately grabbed the child and walked him back inside the store. He lost his father and was attempting to go out into the parking lot to find the car and his dad. Afterwards, my 19 year old son said to me, "Mom, I'm never going out with you again. You ALWAYS do this (that is, find missing kids), and then it takes up so much of our time." Just wait until he's a parent!!!!! My friends and family cannot get over how I find wandering children, especially in department stores and malls. I hope others will read this and hopefully BBelinda's story and appreciate how important it is to have a sixth sense when it comes to our precious children. When the police came back to my home for more information regarding the autistic child, they told me how the mother nearly passed out when she came home and found a police car in front of her home and heard how her child went missing. Besides a personal call from the woman thanking me, the police also thanked me. Clearly I made their job that afternoon easier and there was a happy ending. |

| sue ellen mischke | Posted 12/8/2007 10:20:54 PM | show profile new day, new answers 1. What makes you envious? Pretty people who know they are pretty and complain that they are not pretty enough. Damn them. Damn them all. 2. Who is the biggest windbag you know? The jerk from Philly who is trying to ruin Donna Chang's life. I hate that goomba (I can say that; I'm Sicilian). 3. Have you ever witnessed or experienced what you consider to be a miracle? Still no. 4. If we were to search your purse/wallet/backpack/fanny pack right now, what would we find? License, lipstick, keys, debit card. 5. What is the most valuable lost item belonging to someone else that you have found? Erotic poetry on the 'puter screen on my last VP... 6. What baffles you? 888-NEED HIM. My first night home in two weeks, I decided to vegge on the sofa and plan my 2008 budget. That got boring and so I turned on my only TV for a little distaction. There on MTV was a commercial for Christianity that said: "You aren't a real person until you know Jesus." The atheist I am got pretty pissed and picked up the phone to call NEED HIM, when some weirdo answered and wouldn't give me the name of the marketing chair. So, I wrote a short pissy e-mail instead: "Hi! While watching "America's Next Top Model" on MTV tonight, I was interrupted by one of your bizarre commercials. At first, I thought it was one of those scary meth ads, but, alas, it was worse. I found your commercial to be manipulative, offensive and hypocritical. Perhaps if you used your money and influence to actually do something to help those in need (say...hmm...establish a home/resources for homeless people or help women and children in battered women's shelters start over), you would be demonstrating a true christian spirit and advocacy. Telling people they are not real people unless they know/have/worship jesus is pretty harsh. Not only does it offend those of other religions/belief systems, it demeans and devalues your own religion. Truly pathetic. Perhaps you are part of the reason your religion is losing followers." 7. What products or stores do feel have unfortunate monikers? 888-NEED-HIM. I mean...it that a male prostitute service? 8. Do you consider yourself straight, bisexual or gay? Straight 9. Are you grieving anything right now? Yes...not accepting my acceptance into a good Ph.D. program at a very pretigious university. 10. What is the nicest thing you have done for yourself this week? Lounging around the loft today... ~Bonus Question~ So far, has your life turned out as you hoped it would? Just about...but kinda wished I played in the CSO or in London or San Francisco...but...maybe I will go back to it. |
