For a perfect example, both the republicans and the Nazis declared secularism to be enemies to the health of the state and therefore tried to enforce religious dogma and beliefs in his politics. He carried out an amped up and even more psychotic version of previous European nations' jew eradication and non-christian elimination programs. Some people say that he was an aetheist, but never the man himself.
