Well, you can always go find one of the crazy people walking around in a downtown area talking to themselves. I am sure they would oblige you in an argument :-P

Personally, I feel like eating a whole pint of ice cream by myself right now.

Donna,

Look no further than the MB TV New section....no matter which side of polictics you are on, you will find idiots there who will get you arguing before you know it!

Go give one of them a slap.

Basically, what set off this need to argue is a small family holiday wine and cheese/dessert party I am hosting. My big-fat lovely Italian family will be there and I also invited my husband's snobby family (there are just two of them). They declined due to not wanting to miss out on their intellectual debating rounds that they so look forward to each year during holiday tea. They feel my blue-collar, loud, obnoxious, food-obsessed ethnic family is not at the same level as they are.

So, I sent an e-mail back explaining that I do become so amused at the two of them arguing and debating over topics they know nothing about. However, I feel it's silly and ineffective to discuss topics just for the sake of talking. I proposed that for the next holiday, the topic be announced a month before so everyone could research ideas to provide more intelligent conversation about the topics, as real intellectual elitists do. This has not yet been met with a response and so I am ready and willing to argue.

I love loud, blue-collar families. The more boisterous, the better. Extra points for good Italian grub.
Wish I was there.

Donna,

That's hilarious! Sounds like you threw out the first debate topic challenge.

You will have to let us know how that goes...

My sister and I have vowed to learn the routine for Abbott & Costello's Who's On First and bring it out at family gatherings .. a gentle reminder of the futility of argument, perhaps. ...

Boy do I know how it is! My family and I are very down-to-earth, casual, etc. My husbands family, well in particular his sister and brother-in-law, are what I call fake fancy. For example, they lived for 5 years in Australia, and now they still (14 years back in the US) use words like petrol, bushwalking, barbie, etc. They say words like broc-a-lie, and to-mah-to. And have a lot of useless trinkets around the house that of course our kids can't get within a mile of because god forbid they should touch one of their useless trinkets. Anyway, I could go on and on...
