Unfortunatly in this industry, getting the interview is all about who you know, and it is very difficult to network with professionals while living so far away. I would love to intern with KCD or Harper's Bazaar but I know that those would be a stretch. I have also tried to email many more companies and none have gotten back to me. What can I do to meet a professional or better my chances of being selected? Thanks for all your imput! |
| UnemployedNNJ | Posted 12/11/2007 10:54:47 AM | show profile It's not impossible. When I did my internship I interned with a girl who went to a college several states away but found housing near NYC and traveled to Manhattan where we interned. It's always best to go through the career center at your school to give you a better chance at landing an internship. |

| BeaBan | Posted 12/11/2007 8:37:41 PM | show profile | email poster I went to IU- we were rivals! fashion.net/jobs has some good stuff, and even craigslist has potential- I once found an unreal fashion internship opportunity that way. I have found that sometimes untraditional methods work better when trying to get to the top so why not look at opportunities in Chicago? I'm from there originally and interned for a designer for 3 months which was a great experience. You won't be competing against thousands of people for internships and it will be quite a bit cheaper to live in the city over the summer. GenArt would be a great place to get experience as would something with Modern Luxury's CS Magazine, Chicago Magazine, TimeOut Chicago Magazine, or any of the countless designers there. Good luck!! |
