Hello,
I'm a English graduate trying to
enter the NYC book or magazine publishing industry. I was thinking about enrolling in either the Columbia Publishing Program or the certificate/MA degree at NYU 's SCPS. Columbia's didn't mention how much it cost, and the one at NYU costs as much as J-school, so I just wanted to get some feedback on people who either took either of these programs, or heard anything about them from people who did. I plan on going to info. sessions for both of these...

------
Thank you~~

When I was considering both of these programs, I was told that Columbia focuses more on books, where NYU was more level. I actually applied and went through SPI at NYU, and I loved that so many people in the publishing world (both mags and books) were accessible to you. These professionals acted as the "teachers" and it was a seminar. I can say that it was very fast-paced and I didn't get much sleep through the six weeks program, but it really gave me an insight into the industry (magazine) that I want to be in.
