| Latin1 | Posted – 12/23/2007 8:46:31 PM | show profile This week many of the shows I watched were repeats so I decided to watch Countdown with Keith Olbermann. The show that NBC calls one of the most insightful news commentary shows on cable news. I had seen the tail end of Olbermann's show where he references the great news man Edward R. Murrow. Well I was not surprised. Keith Olbermann's show was all about news clips from all around the world. They were of men with 'funny' big mustaches, newscasters crashing off-road vehicles, people falling down, kids doing stupid things, sports mascots fighting, sports mascots having a foot race and what Olbermann 'reports' in a hyperactive sophomoric gleeful voice as "Panda Porn". All these clips had what appeared to be the soundtrack of the Bennie Hill show with goofy pratfall sounds to give the show more "News Credibility". Then it dawned on me. The audience that Olbermann wants is drunk frat boys. This from a man who suddenly at a drop of dime puts on his "serious face" and changes his tone to his "grown up" voice to 'act' like he is reporting serious news commentary. Olbermann should quit referencing Edward R. Murrow. Murrow is probably turning in his grave that this "news commentator" is soiling his good name. For some reason I imagined crimedog hopping up and down on his ratty couch clapping like a chimp and laughing incessantly over the idea of "Panda Porn". Olberman is really for the low brow. |

The first one is the fact KO was on vacation this week. Allison Steward filled in for him Monday through Wednesday, then they did the Oddball recap thing on Thursday, and his special comments on Friday. Now if you watched Thursday, your take of what was on was pretty much dead on. Seeing as the point to that show is to highlight non-news events. I think a lot of networks do that, seeing as not everyone can do hard hitting news all the time. I just wanted to make sure we were watching the same thing. I mean I know you didn't mention when you watched and all. I was just wondering since you threw a blanket over the entire week of shows with your opening statement. |

| stvj57 | Posted – 12/24/2007 6:28:48 PM | show profile i will not hold it against olborman that a rerun of his show on thurs (the panda pron show) as you call it was beaten by bill at right around 4 to 1. it was after all a repete. i just want to see how keith's fri show (special?) fared. i for one could not keep the channel on msnbc for more than 5 seconds listening to keith preach to the camera as if boooosh was hanging on his every word. i was searching for hanna montanna, the discovery channel, even looked at cnn (arrrgh) while catching factor as well. however keith did win his time slot over cnn. that was the only time slot msnbc won over cnn for the 5 to 11 pm time period. |

I mean its all to just say whatever it is you want, but I like to see the facts behind the statement. I mean I can say KO beats What not to Wear on TLC, hell if I know its true or not, it just sounds good. Better yet, you can say KO is beat by Monk on USA, since that is also owned by NBCU. How's that. Also, Latin, your point makes no sense, seeing as you watched the show the week he was off, so you didn't watch him. You just saw the show. Also, why is it so important to compare BO to KO. They don't even do the same type of show. He does Oddball for entire show because oddly enough people actually want that segment and like it. I doubt he'd do an entire show if it didn't do well in the rating, since that is all people care about. |
| stvj57 | Posted – 12/25/2007 11:37:02 PM | show profile jt, since keith does not rank in the top 30 of cable shows you can pretty much say he gets beat by most cable shows that any mainstream person could name without looking at the ratings lol. also msnbc put out the oddball episode as an example of keith's work just as they put out the special comments episode. they must have thought that those episodes would attract the most viewers so that must be what they think folks watch keith for, goofy oddball news and long winded rants into the camera. |
