It just so happens that about a week ago our washing machine broke down. Today we finally ordered a new one but it won't be here for another week or so. So toward the middle of this coming week I'll either have to buy a few new pairs of underwear or resort to the bonus question.

1.What was your proudest moment in 2007?
plural, i guess: the times that i've said things very hard to say, and managed to convey them in ways that didn't cause ww3. also the times when i've been able to be a significant help.

2. What was your biggest disappointment of the past year?
plural also: the times when i've seen that stupid bad habits i thought i'd beat, i in fact still have. also some work disappointments; and one big disappointment with a close friend.

3. What was your greatest discovery this past year?
hmm. thinking. ok--some people i've met have been great discoveries. also some bands i've found! and a new park opened near my apartment, and that was a *great* discovery. (so many of my answers to these things seem to involve nature...which begs the question of why i live in nyc.)

4. Did you make any new friends in 2007?
yes!

5. Did you lose any friends?
i really hope not. i don't believe in losing (true) friends if there's any way to do otherwise. i fight against letting "we've evolved out of this friendship" happen. but i am having a serious problem with the friend from quetion 2, a beloved friend, and i haven't figured out how to get past it.

6. What was your favorite purchase in 2007?
hmm. i'd say the food i bought for my birthday party last january. i was nervous about the party--it was such a cold night; would all the people i wanted really make it?--and ended up fixating on the food, like if that worked out, everything else would. and it did, and it did.

7. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you this past year?
too long a story to explain. but believe me, it was very embarrassing.

8. What was the biggest surprise for you in 2007?
a friend's recent pregnancy was a big surprise to everyone.

9. What caused you the most pain this past year?
the emotional stress of a physical difficulty i'm dealing with. also, a big and unresolved situation that i just don't know how to resolve (i don't even know what i'm working toward with it). and the friend sit. in question 2 has been bad. and worrying about another friend's health. sorry for multiple answers--but these are big questions!

10. What brought you the most joy?
time with my niece, nephew, and some other relatives. hiking. time at the beach. singing with my bf and the car radio. whenever i've gotten good chunks of time with closest friends. time with cats and dogs, mine and others'.

11. What was your greatest accomplishment for the year?
see #1--i spoke up. i will try to continue to do so. writingwise, hey! i got a poem accepted to an anthology, got an essay accepted to a very decent outlet, got my best word rate ever for an assignment, and presented my first dramatic piece to an audience (that's still a work in progress, though).

12. What did you fail?
as i don't believe in losing friends, i don't believe in failure. if i haven't succeeded in something yet, then hey, i'll do it later. (this is what i tell myself, anyway.)

13. What is your biggest concern for the coming year?
this health thing is a concern. and it is related to my fertility, so that's also a (big) concern. politically, i worry about everything.

14. What emotional baggage do you not want to carry into 2008?
doesn't seem to matter what i want; i have not figured out how to dump off any such baggage, no matter how unwanted.

15. What are you determined to accomplish in 2008?
i would like to at least *begin* a documentary project i've been sitting on for years.

16. What would make 2008 a wonderful year?
if somehow, through no death, injury, or any other undesired thing, i stumbled into enough money to be able to focus on non-money-based projects for a while: documentary project, book proposal, screenplay--things that might generate $ eventually but can't in the immediate term. also if this health thing just went away, as mysteriously as it came.

17. What are your predictions for 2008?
for my own life, so hard to say. for the world too. for this country: i believe that regardless of the results of the election, at least important issues (iraq, health care) will be regularly discussed in the campaigns. and that's something...?

~Bonus Question~
Have you ever flipped your underwear inside out to get one more day of wear from them?
ok. once, camping. i ran out of undies by accident. for the poster who didn't see how this would help: it doesn't really.
