Keep on keepin on D.C. ... yoga is super fantastic and effective ... hence sticks for yoga instructors. Remember, a person burns more calories with cardio AND sculpting than with cardio alone. |

I love me some kickboxing and the elliptical machine for my cardio, but I like yoga as a replacement for weight training, which I think is boring and somewhat uncomfortable. I think of yoga as strength training with my body providing the weight. Instead of doing curls I hang out in downward dog and other associated poses and firm up my arm, chest, and back muscles. A few years ago, when I was taking classes regularly, I received a lot of compliments on how toned my arms were. It does the same thing for your thighs and butt, again, if you're taking the right class and doing it properly. Most classes have some "om" component, which I either ignore, or pretend to participate in. It's worth it to ignore those parts of the classes to get the exercise benefits that either a good Ashtanga or Vinyasa class can offer. |
