I'm happy to see Obama win in Iowa, he's smart, different, kind, funny, etc. But I hope that if he ultimately becomes president he's up the enormous challenges facing him. I'd just hate to see such a nice guy given the Jimmy Carter treatment.

Obama is flash and no substance, he preaches change but doesn't have a plan how to change and frankly starting dialogues with sociopaths such as Amanijad (sic) scares the shit out of me. It's a shame that this country can't see past the flash and not recognize substance we live in a "Save Brittney Spears" culture and Obama is no better enlisting the help of Oprah. Hillary is smarter, has more experience and can actually get things done and win the nomination.

Ugo - Obama's speech last night electrified the nation. Let's call it Obama now. There was a vibe coming from his supporters I haven't seen since Bill Clinton ran. People have had enough darkness and death and long for someone positive. He's proven he's the person. Bush came into office not even knowing where Iraq was on the map. Obama is an educated shrewd man.

much as it pains me to agree with printingman, i have to somewhat agree. while a used roll of scotch tape would make a better president than the one currently occupying the oval office (making for quite a low bar), i don't see much reason to get excited about him. he seems as pre-packaged as any other candidate. i would prefer Edwards (though he let Cheney eat him alive in 04's veep debate, not a good sign) but it doesn't matter anyway. Obama will get everyone excited so there's a big election, lots of money spent and after the voting machines are rigged to spit out the candidate who will continue to wage war in the middle east and slash constitutional protection at home, then everyone can go back to grumbling.

Crimedog, that's the point, Obama has proven nothing, he has no experience and God help us if we have to rely on someone who has to learn on the job. Also i think this whole "man of the world" thing is not what this nation needs right now. Although we need to again join the world stage which has escaped us for the past 8 years, we're not ready to meld into the rest of the world. We are the most powerful, richest nation in the world and have to gain the respect and yes, somewhat the fear of the rest of the world, this goes economically and militarily. I don't want to see us turn into or kowtow to France, Russia and the UN. There's a fine line between being respected for the right reasons and being feared for the wrong reasons. Right now with the current admin, we are feared for the wrong reasons

how is the biggest debtor nation, the 'richest nation in the world?'

Man of the hour maybe but this is a marathon, not a sprint. f I was a republican i'd be happy as a clam. Democratic party strategists should be ashamed of themselves for not being able to come up with a candidate that has a shot at winning the election. Lets see...a jesus freak vs an african american. You gotta think with your head not your heart, unfortunately we are looking at another 4 years.

Obama is another Jimmy Carter.Do we need double-digit inflation, high interest rates, oil shortages, and high unemployment?????

Vote Dennis Kucinich !!!!! He's not afraid of OBL or Fox News.Thats more than any of the other Democrats can say.

*****how is the biggest debtor nation, the 'richest nation in the world?'*****

I guess someone was asleep during macro econ 101. What a moronic statement. Yes, we are the richest and most powerful nation in the world. I don't think I need to explain why. Figure it out

First of all, we do not have the highest standard of living in the world, far from it. Second, our federal government is on track for bankruptcy. Third, our population is living far beyond its means. Fourth, we do not have nearly the fastest growing economies around the world (not that that's such a bad thing in my opinion...). Fifth, what the hell is an economy good for if it doesn't help the people? And we sure as hell don't do a good job of taking care of our people (might want to see Sicko if you haven't already).

Spare me your patriotic mumbo jumbo garbage.

Are you saying Bush proved his worthiness before entering office beyond downing a truckload of suds and snorting his way through tubs of Peruvian flake? Olbama is way ahead at this point. This is one smart man. I'm telling you I've been a doubter but seeing the way he carries himself and the way people embrace his words this is a solid candidate and one who would serve the country well.
