| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 10:30:13 AM | show profile Fox Biz Channel all but invisible BY RICHARD HUFF DAILY NEWS TV EDITOR Friday, January 4th 2008, 4:00 AM Only 6,000 people are watching Rupert Murdoch's new all business cable network during the work day, according to Nielsen ratings data obtained by the Daily News. And, after eight weeks on the air, Fox Business Channel is averaging just 15,000 viewers in prime time. If the average number of viewers at night all got together, they wouldn't even fill Madison Square Garden. For comparison, 284,000 viewers tune in to CNBC during the day, with 238,000 in prime time. The folks at Fox aren't sweating the low preliminary returns. "It's so early, I don't know what to make of them," FBC anchor Neil Cavuto said. "We're just coming out of the gate. Going in, I had so low expectations." Cavuto said the numbers reminded him of 11 years ago, when he joined the then fledgling Fox News Channel. "For years after I left CNBC, it was as if I had entered the witness protection program," he said. It took FNC several years to make a dent in the ratings and more than five years to beat CNN. The FBC's audience peaks at 27,000 viewers at 8 p.m. weeknights, the data show. Another high point has been 2 p.m. weekdays, when 17,000 check in. "I'm not a stranger to this sort of thing," Cavuto said. "I'm a realist. These things take time. It's tough to rate this kind of thing with an audience so small." "It has not affected our ability to get the President of the United States, all of the candidates, every top-name CEO," he said. FBN is available in 30 million homes, with an overwhelming majority of that only in homes with digital service. CNBC is in 94 million homes, all of it available to basic subscribers. rhuff@nydailynews.com |
| jtjt225m | Posted 1/5/2008 11:05:13 AM | show profile FBN is not tanking. They have only been for a few months, everything takes time. They are not available on basic comcast packages, while other cable companies haven't picked them up yet. On the flipside of that, FBN's market hour coverage has to be the most boring TV I have ever seen. I'm not saying that because I'm not a business news viewer, I think CNBC does a good job. Compared to CNBC, FBN is not good. I have watched "Money for Breakfast" clips, and my goodness. Alexis Glick just doesn't do it. They have weak market reporters. When you watch CNBC, no matter what day, who it is from Bob Pisani to Mary Thompson, they have energy and are giving you good information. I will never forget the time I watched FBN and Tracy Byrnes was on the floor with no one around her, giving no information at all. They have a good idea about bringing in main street, but you first need main street to care. Unfortunately, unlike the "Big Idea" on CNBC, FBN doesn't have a show that invites the main street into the fold. I hope FBN can get it together, they just need people who have energy, oh and give good money information. Not mixing up Apple and Abu Dubai. |
| Olbypocrisy | Posted 1/5/2008 11:26:53 AM | show profile Libs make up your weak minds Either ratings matter or they don't. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 11:35:52 AM | show profile 6,000 viewers - damn we have more than that trying to hail a cab in my neighborhood at given hour. Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! Fox tanked! |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 12:16:01 PM | show profile Big, big, big robust tanking! |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 12:51:37 PM | show profile It tanked Frank. How weird - these words fit together perfectly - It tanked - Frank! |
| jtjt225m | Posted 1/5/2008 3:26:31 PM | show profile Frank, are you out of your fucking mind? Can you please tell me how FBN has more viewers than KO. You do realize the numbers that are on the scoreboard are for thousands of viewers, not hundreds, right? FBN is not getting over 20,000 everyday. However KO is getting over 800,000 total every-night. I think 800,000 beats 20,000, right? That's not fuzzy math my friend, that's facts. STOP WITH THE STUPID KO HATRED. You are making yourself look very asinine, don't do that. I know you are a much smarter man than that. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 5:16:02 PM | show profile 6,000 dying porch bugs watch Fox business news - Pathetic! And you clowns acted like Rupert had just conquered MSNBC. |
| jtjt225m | Posted 1/5/2008 5:39:40 PM | show profile "Yet, with such small numbers, and the fact that it has only been on a few months, it STILL does better than Queef Olberloon in his nightly slot on MSLSD." "If only Queff could could "tank" so well." OK Frank, you read what you said, because you were comparing KO's audience to FBN's audience. If you were comparing his audience to BO's audience, then put that, don't an open-ended comparison that isn't comparing what you said it is. We all know who the king of cable news is. Not a doubt in the world. Lastly, when you can put down ratings of deal re-runs on CNBC v. KO, I'll believe it, until then you are just putting down empty words. DAMNIT!! This is again becoming a KO v. BO thing. This has to stop, especially since crimedog didn't start it, you did Frank. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 5:57:46 PM | show profile This is about those board hyenias garfing loads of bull shit about Fox destroying MSNBC. 6,000 vrs 220,000 this a joke. I think Frank, Olby and their muppet friends have more than egg on their face. Something smells really bad! |
| roshob2003 | Posted 1/5/2008 7:33:50 PM | show profile FBC - I have not seen it so I do not how the reporting is or if the coverage is any good. I do watch CNBC and find it to be top notch financial analysis that is presented in an understandable format. FBC - Are we talking CNBC type programming and presentation or are we talking fluff, size 2, bleach blond? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 7:51:54 PM | show profile It's all blondzos and bimguys.. |
| roshob2003 | Posted 1/5/2008 8:33:54 PM | show profile Bimguys... Hey just because they make Jon Edwards hair stylist envious and they live in the gym... Oh who the hell am kidding, when was the last time you saw a fat, bald, out of shape male newscaster (excluding Bill O'Reilly. Note O'Reilly is not technically bald, he just has a bad combover). The joke of it is that being a pretty boy and being an intelligent agent of news delivery do not go together. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 9:03:33 PM | show profile Check out O'Reilly's side profile - the head is three inches think and looks like flat bread. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 1/5/2008 10:00:00 PM | show profile Frank - you are a poor loser and have a track record of picking losers. I don't see any improvement here. 6,000 t0 220,000 his a great distnace apart. It proves once bimbos and jimbos don't make for serious discussion just like this board. It's the Fox Hooter House Business Channel. |
| MatureOne | Posted 1/6/2008 8:39:31 AM | show profile Wow, Crimedog.... It is curious that you hate anything to do with Fox as you obviously do. All of the cable babies have hot women working for them, along with so-called debate programs. The only difference is that Fox gives both sides a decent chance, not one conservative vs. multiple libs or vice-versa. I suspect that FBC will improve and grow, but the audience will ultimately determine for themselves which channel wins - and it will most likely be because of better programming. By the way, do you apply the same measurments to how bad FNC kills MSNBC, CNN, CNNHL, etc..? |
