| writeratheart | Posted 1/5/2008 11:08:00 PM | show profile | email poster I've seen several other writers list the Affluent Page under their clients, which is why I'm posting here. I did a piece for their premier issue back in August and have yet to see payment, despite more than a dozen emails with editor Jillian Blume and, later, the magazine's publisher. Has anyone else had problems with this title (or Epic One publishing)? Have they gone under? |
| golightlyholly | Posted 1/9/2008 8:16:37 PM | show profile The Affluent Page payment problems From what I understand Jillian is no longer with the magazine. I too had invoiced her for an article I wrote for the second issue but was never paid. I later was told to send an invoice via PayPal, which I did, and was paid less than 30 days later. I am awaiting payment for subsequent articles. |
| CSN2 | Posted 1/10/2008 8:44:54 PM | show profile Affluent Page payment problems I, too, wrote two stories, one of which I pitched upon their request for ideas, after Jillian left. Have not received payments, despite duplicate invoicing, or received copies of my work. I guess I'll reinstate the Paypal account I closed due to fraud and see if that works. Does Media Bistro / Freelance Marketplace know that this is going on at The Affluent Page? Has anyone notified them? |
| writeratheart | Posted 1/15/2008 12:10:33 AM | show profile update I just got an email from the publisher asking for my paypal account so he could provide immediate payment. His email is [email address deleted. -pip] |
| JimmyG | Posted 1/16/2008 11:53:49 AM | show profile | email poster Thanks, WAH. I also had written an article for their first issue. I also turned them down when they asked me to write what was essentially ad copy disguised as editorial (I have no trouble with advertorials, so long as they're labeled as such and I am paid accordingly, of which this was neither). I'd sort of written them off, but will try again. Fortunately it's a minor amount of money and required very little effort on my part. |
| CSN2 | Posted 1/16/2008 12:55:49 PM | show profile Affluent Page payment problems Those of you being paid via Paypal accounts, did you set the account up as a personal, or business account? Once the funds arrive, how do you access them? (I've used Paypal to pay for items, but not to receive payments. I closed that account about a year ago, when a fraudulent charge appeared on it, so now I have to open a new one.) Thanks! |
| TAP | Posted 1/18/2008 11:52:52 PM | show profile Payment Writeratheart and CSN2: Please do not forget to post that you have been paid. Thank you. |
| TAP | Posted 1/19/2008 12:01:56 AM | show profile Subsequent Articles? golightlyholly: Please confirm the number of articles you are awaiting payment. Contact us. |
| TAP | Posted 1/19/2008 12:31:02 AM | show profile JimmyG: We contacted you to write an Advertorial, which is common practice in publishing. There are many writers who write corporate communications for business clients, in addition to editorial content for publications. Our advertorials are not written in an underhanded fashion, disguised as editorials. We specifically stated that the assignment would be clearly a special advertising section. You told me that you did not feel comfortable writing "advertorials", thus turning down the assisgnment. |

| TAP | Posted 1/19/2008 1:01:58 AM | show profile Experience Clarification JimmyG: How can you complain about your experience with The Affluent Page. 1) You have yet to submit an invoice and 2) You reneged on an assignment: You confirmed acceptance of the Advertorial assignment via email to JB on 10/22/08, stating that it was only 200 words and was along the same lines as another project you were working on. |
| brainfry | Posted 1/19/2008 3:07:37 PM | show profile Paid... I got my payment after contacting the publisher. Thanks! |
| getmeoutofhere | Posted 1/20/2008 12:35:32 PM | show profile Wow I've never seen a publisher respond so promptly to complaints (and in a public forum, no less!). Hopefully this practice inspires other publishers/editors who are late with payments, too... |
| fourfold | Posted 2/4/2008 8:55:39 PM | show profile hey Affluent Page And no one will advertise with you either. Any potential advertiser who's not an idiot will Google your name and see that you don't pay your writers. Who would want to advertise with such a financially unstable company? |
