I've had experience with promotions on the entertainment side, but not too much with PR. I know HR's receive so many resumes a day...I was wondering would it be inappropiate to send my resume in a gift box? I figured this would show creativity and at least get my resume noticed. Am I right?...this industry is pretty new to me. EVERYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK, I'M ALSO OPEN TO ANY SUGGESTIONS!! THANKS!! |

Some people will look at it and dump it in the trash, others will be intrigued, but unless you have the credentials they're looking for they won't hire you. Some may dismiss you as naive. Save the money on gift boxes for something else, like training or a networking event. ------ http://www.mswritesguide.blogspot.com |
| foodlit | Posted 1/10/2008 6:01:50 PM | show profile As an hr person, I'd suggest that you don't do this. It will make you stand out, in a bad way. You will come across as desperate and your resume will probably be filed...in the trash. I've seen this happen over and over again, especially when people put their photos on their resumes or use shiny or neon colored paper. Just stick to simple, black and white, good quality paper and highlight your experience and write a nice cover letter. Follow up with a phone call a few days later to make sure they received it. If you sent it by email, leave amessage saying when you sent it, so they can easily track it down, and also a quick sentence as to how you are qualified...make them want to call you back! If you don't hear in two days, try again. After that, move on. Good luck! Pam |
