| lesley4 | Posted 1/13/2008 6:54:14 PM | show profile I'm designing new business cards and want to include a quote on the back. How do I list it: with single quotes, double quotes, or none? Also, what's the rule concerning em dashes when listing the famed author? Thanks. |
| editordebit | Posted 1/14/2008 2:49:25 PM | show profile See Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, section 11.40, on epigraphs (technically your quotation isn't an epigraph, but the typographical context is similar). No quotation marks, and typography and format of sources may vary. The examples they give are: _Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!_ --Sir Walter Scott It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. Jane Austen, _Pride and Prejudice_ |

Also, I've been sent emails from editors with quotes in their signatures that are enclosed in double quotes, so I really appreciate your feedback. |
