Topic: Where should I start?

I've worked in tv news for over 7 years now, doing everything from reporting to commercial production. I'm going to be moving soon to be closer to my family, and am looking to make a career change. I would like to move into more of a marketing/copywriting role, or entry level PR. I've done some writing for commercials, but my college degree is in broadcasting and political science. I've been doing a little research and I know it's recommended that beginners do an internship, which I would be open to. I've been told I write well for journalism, but I know this would be a whole new field to learn. I'm 26 and have been out of college for two years. Would I stand a chance at being hired based on my previous experience, even if it is in news? Or would it be more appropriate to try for an internship first to learn the ropes? Any advice or thoughts would be most appreciated! |
