Oh...and was and were are not articles.

But I like Keltoi anyway...

keltoi2 Posted – 1/17/2008 1:40:51 PM | show profile
Thanks, Donna. My mom majored in English and she's still correcting me on the "I" and "me" question.

As for the articles, I wasn't referring to the grammatical term, but in the context of my earlier statement that I edited articles that "was".

So many people get the "I/me" thing wrong. You are not alone.

1. Approximately how many miles do you live from your place of birth?
About 80. I have never lived off Long Island. How sad.

2. Who is the epitome of cool in your opinion?
Carlos Santana. He's a rock legend and designs sexy women's shoes. Who could ask for more?

3. What do you find absolutely useless?
Eyebrow gel
The 'Salad Shooter'
Cruise control on my car
Strapless bras
The Kendrick Automatic Extracation device used to remove people trapped in cars after a wreck. (An EMT reference here.) It just doesn't work and causes more harm than good in my opinion.
That automatic shower cleaner gadget that sprays solution on the walls of the shower to keep it mildew free.

4. How many photographs of yourself do you have displayed around your home?
None of me but lots of my labradors.

5. When was the last time you felt elation?
Had a five second burst when the spouse agreed to go ahead and sign the divorce papers.
Had another burst when I then booked a week-long vacation for myself in the Bahamas.
Two periods of elation in one week.

6. Have you ever donated blood?
No. Although I could be gross and say I donate it once a month for about five days.

7. Are there any authors you would love to spend a day with?
Augusten Burroughs, David Sedaris, Stephen King.

8. Have you ever had/would you ever get a colonic?
I haven't but have given it some thought. I've heard that coffee colonics are all the rage. Being a vegetarian, I don't worry too much about impacted rotting meat in my colon though.

9. Who or what was the subject matter of the best article/photo/design/creative project you have ever produced?
An article on Bob Barker, the beloved host of 'The Price Is Right.' It gained some national attention and the suits at CBS called me to ask for permission to use it. I still didn't get free tickets to be part of the audience though.

10. Where do your daydreams take you?
Anywhere from Ireland to Alaska with anyone from a blue collar guy to a physics professor. I am always ravshingly beautiful, smart and successful. I think that is why they call them daydreams.

~Bonus Question~
What is the biggest drama in your life at present?
Undoing my holy union in a manner that is loving and causes the least amount of pain to all parties involved. Amen.

1. Approximately how many miles do you live from your place of birth?

20 1/2 miles.

2. Who is the epitome of cool in your opinion?

Margaret Thatcher.

After a food processor, that's still unopened in it's original box, that I received as an engagement gift, the guy I married... from time to time can sometimes be absolutely useless.

4. How many photographs of yourself are displayed around your house?

Maybe three or four.

5. When was the last time you felt elation?

This you're not going to believe... remember the randoms a a week or two ago that asked what's in and out? I said, Drew Peterson was in while Scott Peterson was out. Anyway, I met Dr. Michael Baden (who did the independent autopsy on Drew Peterson's third wife) on a plane yesterday and was able to give him my two cents about Drew Peterson. Now I can sleep a little better at night.

6. Have you ever donated blood?

I've been told I can't so I've organized blood drives in my community instead.

7. Are there any authors you would love to spend a day with?

Oh, please don't get me started!!!! Would have loved to have met E.B. White. Wouldn't mind having lunch with Calvin Trillin and Robert Caro together. For dinner, I would meet John Douglas so we could discuss serial killers. Then for dessert, I'd meet up for a cup of coffee with Anne Kreamer, author of Going Gray, and then we'd hit the town!

8. Have you ever had/would you ever get a colonic?

No.

9. Who or what was the subject matter of the best article/photo/design/creative project you have ever produced?

Ones that required the attention and then action of local government.

10. Where do your daydreams take you?

Straight into the bed of this man that I've had a crush on for the last twenty-five years.

Bonus Question -

No drama, good, bad or indifferent.

mad fingers and wineaux
i have to agree with wanting to meet with david sedaris and sylvia browne. one would keep me laughing and the other keep me wondering. :-)
wineaux Posted – 1/17/2008 7:18:15 PM | show profile
Yeah, I think I need to add David Sedaris to the list.
And, I want to ask Sylvia what I am "meant" to do. It would be so easy for someone just to tell me what I should be doing, rather than spending all this damn time soul searching.

And, I'm glad I left it in my mind that I only listed living people. My lunch w/ dead authors could fill the Super Dome.

Dorothy Parker, Hemingway, Thurber, V. Wolfe and Vonnegut would be the top contenders, however.
wineaux Posted – 1/17/2008 7:21:17 PM | show profile
I just remembered something that should have made me list Paul Newman as the coolest. I saw him last spring at a grocery store in a white linen suit. No man on earth could look as utterly cool as he did in that suit.

Mirage: I left Paris the first day of the strike...I ended up having to run across the city to catch a bus to the airport...it was freezing but I was running in a t-shirt and ended up getting deathly ill for the next week or so in Dublin.

Kelt: Paris cemeteries are so amazing that anyone who snaps a photo in them seems as talented as Ansel Adams. There's a statue in honor of Baudelaire in the Montparnasse Cemetery that--whoever takes a picture of it--always comes out looking as dreary and grim as a Baudelaire prose poem. Here's an image of it I just found online http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/40/Cénotaphe_de_Baudelaire.jpg/454px-Cénotaphe_de_Baudelaire.jpg

1. Approximately how many miles do you live from your place of birth?
about 600

2. Who is the epitome of cool in your opinion?
Brian the dog from Family Guy

3. What do you find absolutely useless?
single use appliances like waffle makers, etc.

4. How many photographs of yourself do you have displayed around your home?
one or two

5. When was the last time you felt elation?
Too long ago. Too many years. Can't even remember maybe back in the 80's

6. Have you ever donated blood?
Yes once and passed out afterward. Tried again the following year and passed out when the nurse asked me if I have sex with men.

7. Are there any authors you would love to spend a day with?
no

8. Have you ever had/would you ever get a colonic?
Actually Janet gave me my first earlier this week! It was ok. But Janet, I don't think a garden hose was appropriate. It was a little rough getting it in. You could have used a little more vaseline in it. I think I saw blood. And you turned the spigot on full blast!!! I felt like a water balloon. It was coming out of my nose! Gentler next time Janet, ok.

9. Who or what was the subject matter of the best article/photo/design/creative project you have ever produced?
portraits of transvestite hookers

10. Where do your daydreams take you?
Anywhere but here.

~Bonus Question~
What is the biggest drama in your life at present?
just internal ones.
Astera Posted – 1/18/2008 12:44:08 AM | show profile
1. Approximately how many miles do you live from your place of birth?

About 440 miles away...just a short plane ride.

2. Who is the epitome of cool in your opinion?

I have a total girl crush on Jennifer Garner. I have ever since she was in "Time of Your Life," that ill-fated "Party of Five" spinoff with Jennifer Love Hewitt.

3. What do you find absolutely useless?

Those Biore pore strips. I never see any gunk come out of my pores as a result of using them.

4. How many photographs of yourself do you have displayed around your home?

Two...one wedding picture and one with friends. I'm terrible with pictures. Most of mine are tossed haphazardly into a cardboard box.

5. When was the last time you felt elation?

Elation...that's a pretty strong emotion, and it's been in short supply for me lately. I felt happy last Sunday when it was about 75 degrees and my husband and I took a stroll around the Dana Point harbor.

6. Have you ever donated blood?

No. I used to not weigh enough (I'm 5'1"), and now that I've breached that 110-pound cutoff, my veins are all scarred up from chemo, which makes getting an IV a very traumatic experience. The phlebotomist usually has to stick me several times, and I don't like it at all. I would do it if someone really needed my blood, though.

7. Are there any authors you would love to spend a day with?

Dead--Dorothy Parker
Living--Michael Connelly, Sophie Kinesella (because I'm writing a chick lit novel), David Sedaris and Sue Grafton.

8. Have you ever had/would you ever get a colonic?

Absolutely not! I've had to have two colonoscopies because my mom got colon cancer at a really young age. (She's fine; I'm fine...my cancer was non-Hodgkins lymphoma.) Anyway, I would never voluntarily have my colon flushed out. Most unpleasant.

9. Who or what was the subject matter of the best article/photo/design/creative project you have ever produced?

I have not been too creative lately, but I think I wrote a very interesting article about why America's prison system is broken, and I wrote it before it became such a hot topic. Of course, I wrote it for a tiny little trade pub, so no one ever read it.

10. Where do your daydreams take you?

I daydream about finishing my novel, getting a book deal, promoting my book at readings and (hopefully) on television, and then selling the movie rights. So, you know, it's all totally realistic.

~Bonus Question~
What is the biggest drama in your life at present?

My crazy co-workers. With one woman, it's just drama all the time. I mean, really. Our jobs aren't that important. There's no call to be sending emails at 11:45 at night and on Christmas Day. And this other guy is so nosy/needy. What business is it of his if I take a day off without pay? He's not the boss of me!

Wow, this was like a TMI RTQ for me! So it goes.

~Bonus Question~
What is the biggest drama in your life at present?
well. there is actually a brand-new and huge one. i described it in my original post, but i'm taking the fact that it didn't go through as a sign to say less right now. for the moment, just wish me luck and send me good, happy thoughts at 9:30 on tuesday morning, if you can. thanks.
keltoi2 Posted – 1/18/2008 11:11:39 AM | show profile
Bleak--Agreed. Anywhere you turn in Pere Lachaise is another reat shot.

PB--I actually wrote Lorrie Moore early on in her career asking about her choices of characters, and she sent me a very long and gracious latter explaining why she chose who she did. Oh--and good luck and good thoughts!
keltoi2 Posted – 1/18/2008 11:12:27 AM | show profile
Make that, "great" shot.
keltoi2 Posted – 1/18/2008 11:13:17 AM | show profile
And "letter". I really have to start reading my stuff before hitting "post."
pamelabeth Posted – 1/19/2008 1:57:49 PM | show profile
a long letter from lorrie moore!
that is so great. you must have been thrilled. i'd love to know what she said!

i'd like to add to the "cool list" rickie lee jones (sp? why don't i know for sure the spellings of any of my cool people?) and james blake--i have been in love with him for years.

remember, guys--9:30 AM tuesday, est.

Actually, I think Tonya "my lace broke" Harding is a big fan of colonics as is Tom Cruise and Katie. I believe it is almost like a sacrament to scientologists. One tried to convert me on the street one day and I told him, if you're worried about rotting meat in your anus, eat more fiber.
