I'm a freelance copywriter who has always wanted to write editorial. (A predictable scenario, I'm sure.) I was a Copy Manager in a Creative Services Dept at a high profile magazines for 5 years, but never had the opportunity or savings to make the switch. Now that I've got a spouse to help support me, I've gotta make it happen...

Can I send an editor my special advertising sections and brochures in lieu of clips or will I look pathetic? For example, I'm trying to write travel edit and have tons of ad sections that sound like edit.

I've also got a few clips from regional newspapers. Should I send both copy and edit?

Am I overly concerned about this division of "church and state?" I think I've got an inferiority complex.

Thanks for whatever advice you can give me!

I'd send the ad sections that look like editorial copy, and not point out they are ad sections.
