| pr162 | Posted 1/17/2008 4:36:46 PM | show profile | email poster I have been wanting to get more training in the design field. However, there are no colleges that offer graphic design courses near me, and I still need to work full-time to pay for it. I started researching online design schools, and one that interested me was Sessions.edu. I was wondering if anyone knew anything (good or bad), or went to this school that could provide me with some more information. Thanks |

| botticelligirl | Posted 5/2/2008 1:18:29 PM | show profile | email poster Interactive Graphic Designer Tells All "In terms of desktop publishing programs [here are the ones used by the graphic design industry:] Adobe Photoshop (Image manipulation) InDesign (Page layout program) Quark (Page layout program; most used in biz yet inferior to InDesign.) If you intend on learning any of these programs I highly recommend taking courses at community colleges. They offer the cheapest, quickest way of learning these programs from experienced teachers. And you will be able to put that knowledge to use almost immediately. I highly DON'T recommend taking one or two online tutorials for a program and then listing on a resume that you are "proficient" at these programs. Anybody with experience can see right through this." I would like to say that this guidance is from me and that I heeded it but my career path swerved. Rather it was the best advice I received 3 years ago from a working interactive designer. Currently, my copy of the manual for Adobe's Creative Suite 2 with walk-through exercises is en route. |
